Why do the Canucks force him to play the right side? Probably something to do with the philosophy that a right shot should play the right wing for purposes of structure... most of his scoring chances have come from the left side though. Either through a rush or setting up for a one timer there. Regardless, he's still not scoring on any of them so I don't know what the solution is, but maybe a higher volume of chances will force something to go in eventually. The Comets are about to get another powerplay, their third of the night.

stonecoldstevebernier
Just now, Sean Monahan said: Any gif or video? Only if the Comets or Ryan Biech decide to post it on Twitter. The Comets usually put together a highlight package after the game so it might be in there later.
stonecoldstevebernier
Virtanen with another nice chance coming down the left side with a wrist shot. After the save, Rumble (who Virtanen decked last game, drawing a double minor off of the hit) comes at him and Virtanen shoves him to the ice again. One of the Senators retaliates and takes a penalty, and the Comets are on the PP again.
Alflives
Another nice rush down the left wing by Jake. Then a guy attacks him, and Jake puts him down:)

But tbh I like it better when there's more people posting in here, usually there's not much activity on game days. I also have to give props to @Beary Sweet for regularly making updates too. Comets are on the PK now, nearly five minutes into the third. Archibald has been great on the PK tonight and almost got another chance with some good pressure at the point. Thanks man. No problem. I like watching our Comets play from time to time. They play hard for Green similar to how our players play hard for Willie in the big club. They have similar mentalities and want the players to work hard and never give up. That's why I still watch the Canucks since the work ethic is still there, just the lack of skill in the lineup is missing.
stonecoldstevebernier
Still 4-1 for Utica after two, shots are 32-18 for the Comets. No goals in this period but the Comets are playing a very consistent game and getting contributions from everybody; no passengers in this one so far. Virtanen was quiet in the first but very noticeable in the second. He had the two aforementioned rushes, and two more after that. One where he missed the net on a 2-on-1 coming down the right side and another on the left side where he beat the defender wide again and tried to pass it across. Cassels has also stood out to me more than usual and almost scored late after a nice pass from Bancks in the crease. He's going to the corners and the front of the net and trying to generate things which he wasn't able to do last year at all.
Beary Sweet
After the scoring explosion in the 1st, things cooled down in the middle frame. Comets continued to apply pressure on Binghamton but their netminder has stood up tall. Surprised that Grenier didn't get a call after he was clearly tripped but the ref missed it. Still 4-1 Comets though. Demko was solid in the period. Didn't get tested a whole lot but managed to keep it a 3 goal Comets lead heading into the final frame

stonecoldstevebernier
Virtanen hasn't had a shift in the third period and isn't on the Utica bench. Not sure what's going on there.
stonecoldstevebernier
Sens cut it to 4-2 with eight minutes to go. Akeson one times a rebound from the left circle past Demko on the powerplay.
stonecoldstevebernier
Grenier ices it with an empty netter and that's the end of this one, 5-2 the final for the Comets who had a 41-30 edge in shots on goal. The tempo of the game really tailed off in the third period but Utica played a total team game today and almost every player had a good moment or two - in addition, every one of Utica's skaters had at least one shot on goal. Demko did well to turn aside several good chances from Binghamton and looked comfortable in the crease. Archibald was probably the Comets best player out of a very effective bunch. Even players like Sautner and Cassels who normally have their struggles had strong games. Virtanen didn't play the third period, presumably due to injury. No word on what that might be but I hope the Comets will provide an update at some point. Nuxfanabroad
Sweet. Keeping pace with the others(whole Div, from 1st to 5th is pretty tightly bunched together). Unfortunately Albany & St John's also won. Think Syracuse got their butt kicked though. Comets are only about 8 or 9 pts from the top(Div), despite a mediocre season, thus far. 20 games left to get rolling strong. Right now an interesting dog-fight between our's, Mtl's & perhaps the Leafer's farms.
Beary Sweet
Grenier seals the deal with an empty netter and Comets with a convincing victory over Binghamton 5-2. Archie started it all off with a rush on the right flank of the ice and sniped one by O'Connor. LaBate scored a similar goal. Then Subban and Pelletier quickly recorded tallies with 3 goals combined by both teams being scored in that span in less than 2 minutes. Jake continues to improve on his game. He may not be racking it up on the scoresheet but he is improving on other parts of his game. He always stayed with his check and made sure he didn't lose track of his man. To top that off, he recorded 3 shots so you know it's only a matter of time till he starts to get on some sort of a groove offensively. He's also starting to play a good 200 ft game which is great to see considering you need to play a complete game to be a solid NHLer. Demko is also starting to take advantage of the workload given to him and has ran away with the gig making 28 saves tonight. Hope they build off this as they have another game tomorrow night and the following night after also. Go Comets!

hobart16
I heard Virtanen was sick and pulled out for the third period. Observations of all are correct he played a fantastic game last night at both ends. He was flying, and had some excellent plays where he turned defense to offense in a hurry. Nice total team effort and Demko is getting some great experience. Team needs to stay on a roll to make playoffs. Our division isn't the strongest so if we get in we can advance. Particularly if we get Gaunce and some of these new faces and maybe even Boeser. Big hockey weekend for me here in Utica with 3 AHL home games, and NCAA D3 game this afternoon ECAC West championship between Utica College and Hobart College, Pierre Maguire's alma mater. Go Skatesmen!

They'll likely have some pretty good adds to end the year, but I was thinking more of immediate help. Doesn't matter if you add Gaunce, Goldobin and Boeser if you haven't made the playoffs. stawns
Great two periods for Jake.....every game I watch, he gets better and better. When the goals start going in, he's going to improve in leaps and bounds, imo.

If he doesn't hit the score sheet he still has anot opportunity to make a difference where nylander and Ehlers does not. Problem was he wasn't hitting the score sheet or making a difference earlier this year. Glad he's getting back to the his hat now. Also keep the updated coming if you watch the his hat he games guys
