If he doesn't hit the score sheet he still has anot opportunity to make a difference where nylander and Ehlers does not. Problem was he wasn't hitting the score sheet or making a difference earlier this year. Glad he's getting back to the his hat now. Also keep the updated coming if you watch the his hat he games guys Aside from the lack of goals, there's nothing I've seen that discourages me about him during his time in Utica. I've watched the bulk of the games since Xmas and many nights he is clearly the most talented player on the ice. As others have noted, I'm not sure why they insisting on playing him on RW, when LW is clearly where he feels most confident.

hobart16
i hadn't noticed the difference until last night when LW he was terrorizing Bing defense from that side. Labate took Virt's spot with Bancks and Hamilton and that worked last night as Labate was a menace in front of the net and that line checked hard. And Cassels and Virtanen seem to like playing together.

But tbh I like it better when there's more people posting in here, usually there's not much activity on game days. I also have to give props to @Beary Sweet for regularly making updates too. Apparently on the Ottawa Senator's board they had only 12 posts in their GDT for Burrows' first game -- pretty funny, less than games for the Canucks' AHL team. Go Comets! stonecoldstevebernier
The Comets play Albany today at 4:00. Demko gets the start again, and Subban will miss the game with an upper body injury. Hopefully its minor, and they're just keeping him out as a precaution since its a three-in-three this weekend. Virtanen will play despite leaving the game early yesterday. Utica is still three points back of St. John's for the final playoff spot with a game in hand. stonecoldstevebernier
No score at the end of the first period, shots are 11-6 Albany. That was a pretty uneventful period with barely anything you could call a scoring chance... they must have all been used up yesterday. Demko was decent, and the Comets penalty kill did well on the only PP chance of the period (a poor retaliation penalty by Pedan). St. John's lost in regulation to Toronto, so the Comets have an opportunity to gain some ground with a good result here.
Beary Sweet
No score through 1 between the Comets and the Albany Devils. Jake was pretty active in the period, laying out the body on his check. Few chances both ways with Demko able to deny the chances he had faced.
stonecoldstevebernier
Virtanen scores and its 1-0!! One times a nice pass from McEneny on an odd-man rush. Good for him, he's been playing well lately and he finally gets rewarded. Refs are reviewing it to see if it went in... may have hit the middle bar and bounced out, there was no signal on the ice. EDIT: Its a good goal! That's the first in 16 games for him... what a slump-breaker.

Demko doesn't look anything like he did in the earlier part of the season. His positioning is much better and he's making saves just by being in the right spot. His style was too upright before, but now he's using his length to cover more of the net. He looks like Quick in there these last couple games. The gorilla was just lifted off his back. That has to feel good. And no surprise he scored from the left side of the ice. All of his offense comes from that area. That was more a comment on the middling quality of Albany's chances in the first than Demko's play. Just felt like a stretch to call him great when he didn't face anything particularly dangerous. But you're right, its true being in the right spot can make those chances look a lot easier than they actually are.
stonecoldstevebernier
Hamilton scores to make it 2-0! That was a scramble in the crease with Blackwood down and Labate flattening an Albany defender, and Hamilton was able to flip it in amongst all the bodies. stonecoldstevebernier
2-0 at the end of the second period, with Albany holding the shot advantage 27-18. However, the Comets have been more opportunistic and capitalized on their scoring chances. Albany has had more zone time but Utica is doing a good job keeping them to the outside and limiting quality shots. Zalewski and Valk have swapped places in a minor shake-up; Zalewski in particular has had a strong game and almost scored a highlight reel goal dangling through the Albany defence. Cassels has also been noticeable. He used a burst of speed to create a 2-on-1 shorthanded chance early in the second which didn't result in anything, but its encouraging to see him with some more jump to his game lately. I think the shot total is a little misleading, the play has been pretty even, imo. I think Utica has had better chances overall.

Hopefully he can build on this and become a more relied upon member of the team next year in the last of his ELC. ----- The Comets are going to the PP after Virtanen rushed into the Albany zone and got tripped up. stonecoldstevebernier
Rendulic scores on the PP to make it 3-0! Takes a nice feed from Pelletier below the goal line and gets a quick shot off in front of the net.

His skating is looking a lot better too. I'm guessing he's finally completely healthy and able to truly develop his skills to go with his high hockey IQ.
