[Rumour] Coyotes Making A HUUUUUGE Offer For The 1st Overall Pick

Take it with a grain of salt.

Spoiler

Per reliable source: Arizona already pushing hard to acquire No. 1 pick overall & bring Auston Matthews home to play for Coyotes.

According to same source, Coyotes would trade their 2 1st rd picks + either Max Domi or Christian Dvorak for right to draft Auston Matthews

But according to same source, no indication at this point that would accept offer from or anyone. Could change though.

id take it.

Thats half a rebuild right there

You're not wrong. The Leafs are already pretty advanced in their rebuild though. I think a bonafide superstar in Matthews would be more valuable to them. I don't think anything will end up happening because I believe the Leafs will want OEL and Arizona won't be willing to give him up.

The Leafs have a a lot of first round picks in recent years and have seen their share of misses so I would think they would want to hold on the opportunity to grab Matthews or Laine no matter what.

quantity vs quality type of trade... But more importantly you don't move away from special talents and Matthews, Laine and Puljujarvi are special talents.

That and you can't say no to a franchise center which is what Matthews is

I should also state that Leafs already shot a firesale in their roster and have a sh$$ ton of picks, they don't need more...

Other than Biggs and Gauthier they've had a pretty decent drafting record going back 10-12 years, actually. Their biggest issue has always been in asset management. Most of their 'hits' never made an impact for them and were traded away for scraps.

Anyway, you knew this would be coming. Chaka would need to make an attempt. Unoess it's some ridiculous deal i just don't see the Leafs doing it.

Agreed.

Matthews is very Toews-like. The leafs won't trade him.

Marner, Domi, Nylander, Kapanen, Rielly are all going to be great players, but will any of them be superstars? Leafs are so stocked in their prospect cupboard that I think they can afford to skip on adding extra picks and just go for the knockout.

The only way they trade with Arizona is if OEL is going the other way. Every elite team seems to have a dman that can log 30 minutes a night if you need him to. Rielly will never be that guy because (1) he is too small to be physically dominant and (2) he doesn't make smart enough reads to be a Keith/Letang type dman.

I never like the idea of trading a superstar (yes, Matthews hasn't played a game in the NHL yet) for several strong players.
