Bandwagon38
I really am excited about what Jim Benning is doing with this team. I like how he is finding players from unlikely sources in similar age brackets to create an incredible competition this fall! There are now several fringe prospects looking to make their mark with this team and several roster players looking over their shoulders at what is coming behind. I think this will create a summer of intense training that will lead into an incredible camp that hopefully leads to an exciting year. I am just not sure which new face I am most excited about. We have two right handed d-men that are looking to make this line-up. We have a giant that should come in to camp more prepared to make life miserable for the opponents. Rodin is coming back to try and crack an NHL line-up after winning an MVP award in his respective league. And several 2nd year players (Vey, Etem, Granlund, Gaunce, Baerschi, Virtanen, Hutton) who are all looking to take steps forward with this team while feeling the pressure from behind. I hope that Rodin is the biggest surprise seeing as we are desperate for some scoring!

Raymond Luxury Yacht
Tryamkin won't surprise me, I think he's going to be effective. I think the surprise will be Granlund. SURPRISE!
Glory_Days
Cole Cassels, he's gonna have a huge comeback year with the Comets!

Nucker 67
Got a feeling Larsen will surprise with his speed and effort to score. He plays almost like an extra forward, but has the speed to get back quick if needed. I really hope he turns out to be another one of Benning's gems. Hairy Kneel
^^I just guessed Larsen too! I think he may be our pmd and pp guy (high hopes for this kid!)
Nucker 67
Yeah, watch some highlights of Larsen, incredibly fast, even faster than the Honey Badger IMO (both Danes BTW), and he isn't afraid to go to the net and shoot. Whether or not he can do any of that in the NHL, guess we'll find out.
Bandwagon38
Hockeyprospects rank him at a "B" for probability for success! If Stecher or Larsen can handle the NHL they will be amazing finds! (both righties)

Anyone who Quotes Trump is okay in my books. Love Trump. Now if Cassels breaks through that would be AMAZING. My surprise player is Rodin. He's coming here with very little hype or expectations. 15 goals and 35pts? I'd be happy with that. Maybe Bo's RWer.
Bandwagon38
I should have added Shinkaruk and McCann to the poll for all of the Benning haters but I thought I would keep it positive!!!

What I am most excited about is that we have a whole bunch of young prospects who are viewing this next season as maybe their last chance! (Rodin, Larsen, Cassels etc.) And a bunch of guys who are looking in their rearview mirrors! (Baerschi, Virtanen, Etem, Gaunce, Pedan etc.) preseason should be very interesting! There will be so many guys attempting to turn heads at camp. Should be highly competitive! I would love to see Cassels have a redemption year and an abysmal one! He lost the entire offseason of training to injury and then tried to learn the pro game out of shape and never really caught up. I hope he comes to camp like the beast he was for the Generals! kloubek
I'm not sure some of the guys on the list succeeding would be considered a surprise. Most of us are pencilling in Tryamkin as a regular next season, and Stecher was the most sought after college prospect for a reason. I think they will both be NHL regulars in short order. Rodin to me would be a surprise. I'm honestly not expecting him to make the team - let alone be successful. Garteig will probably do well with Utica, so while I have no idea if he will be an NHL player or not, I wouldn't be surprised. Especially considering what a machine Vancouver has been with pumping them out... we must be doing something right. Of the remaining, I guess I'd say Larsen. But unless he has a standout camp or there is an immediate injury (or one of our defensemen is really playing horrible) I'm not sure how he is going to have a chance to play. Who shall we bench in favour of Larsen? So I'm going to go off the chart and say Hutton. Yes, I know he was an initial surprise. But I think he's going to be noticeably better this season. Salacious Crumb
Willie D will have a surprisingly real good year if injuries don't decimate the top 1/2 of the lineup again.

THERETOOL
I know he's diminutive but Im surprised that no-one thinks subban may a nice surprise for us .. he could be a strong pp quarterback on a team that lacks that positional player . I know people will say that his defensive game is suspect but when I hear the way p.k speaks about him I really have to wonder . he has always said that his brother has more natural ability than he does , and that he has proven the nay sayers wrong at every level .. wouldn't it be lovely is he could do it again ?
