It was extremely hard saying goodbye to Hjalmarsson but we were put in a position by previous management where we've had to make some tough decisions on our future. We wish Niklas nothing but luck in Boston, they're getting a hell of a player and thank you for everything you did for Colorado.

Stoked to have Niklas on board... after missing out on a few big fish in the UFA market, we started to realize we were going to have to bite the bullet, and jump into the trade market.

JR was a pleasure to deal with. I think we both did well for our clubs, while maintaining the focus of our own needs. Good hockey trade in my book. I got a great d man at a fair salary for a great term. JR got a youth boost, including a potentially exciting d prospect.

It was a tough but fair trade and likewise, we thank you for a pleasant negotiation.

To  small.pngMontreal: Antoine Roussel, Lars Eller

Again, we had to make some tough calls on some excellent players in Roussel and Eller, with an eye to our future. We wish both luck in Montreal and we're sure they'll be solid contributors to their lineup. Thanks to @_arby_18 for a pleasant negotiation as well.

It's tough to move such important pieces but we feel between both these trades and the subsequent UFA signings we made, we've done well to try to fill the large voids left by these three players with the additions of Haula, Morrow, Helm and Gunnarson. Welcome to the club all of you and as well as exciting prospects Dougherty and Harkins whom we hope to see pushing for spots soon.

All transactions updated.

As always, please check your cap sheets.

/ I am truly, truly apologetic though.

// Sorting through some PMs. Feel free to bump.

/// Big thanks to greensman for helping me get caught up.

//// Yes, I am back.

///// Let's freaking do this thing.

Good to have you back commish ;) Only things I see in error on mine at first glance are the conditional 2nd from the Montreal is missing and I've got some pending UFA's who are no longer with us. That and it's looking like I'll be nixing Nichuskin to the Springs...:picard::mad:

Happy belated birthday to @OurTimeToShine as well!

Fixed.

I left a note on the conditional 2nd.

REMINDER: The Regular Buy-out window opens tomorrow, Spet 23rd, and runs through Sept 30th.

4.6 – Buyouts

There are two separate one week buyout periods, one from June 20th-27th and one from Sept.23rd-30th. During these buyout periods, teams can buy players out of their contracts if they so desire. Any teams buying out a contract will incur a cap hit of 33% of the players annual salary for each remaining year of the contract. Players must clear unconditional waivers before they can be bought out.

The Habs are excited to have this trade finalized. It was a difficult one to make, but we took the plunge in an effort to add some likely playoff-bound middle-sixers who we hope will provide some much needed depth to our lineup. We really didn't want to part with any of the pieces that are now Colorado-bound, but you've got to give to get.

Having said all of that, we are very excited to have Antoine and Lars in Montreal and to see what they can bring to our lineup as we look to improve upon last season.

To  small.pngMinnesota: Marian Hossa, Scott Laughton, Cam Ward, Dylan McIlrath

This has been a trade we have been working on for awhile.

It was a hard move to make, but given Hossa's advanced age - we needed to find a way to better allocate that cap space while ensuring cost security with Colin Wilson.

Adding more picks is always good - and we think we upgraded our goaltending.

Wondering if there is an error on my SS (Philly). Have $2.75M in the minors with ??? beside it. Not sure if this is salary allocated from the previous GM from a move I'm unaware of, or if this is an error.

EDIT: To add, the other reason I ask is because I calculated my front office budget not including that amount. If this is something that is indeed correct, then I need to change my Minor League budget.

If it's indeed correct, then I need to re-adjust my Front Office Budget, as I did not account for this unforeseen amount.

@theminister Thanks!

OK, now that things are on the upswing;

After being surprised to have a GM job for losing out on Pierre Luc What's his name?  The Oilers have had a productive, but anti-climactic balance of the off season. We still managed three players drafted in the top 32 in the real NHL draft. And without substantial assets for the trade market > set about using cap space to improve our lot in life...

We missed on a couple of signature free agents. Who, unfortunately went to Western conference foes.  So its hard to gauge how far our improvements will take us if they are improved as well?  Stephen Gionta is also suddenly fighting for a real life job, on a PTO. It's a realistic outlook if not exciting.

We did manage 3 new Top 9 legit NHL forwards, two by free agency & one vioa trade to substantially improve our depth.  Carl Hagelin, Bryan Gionta & N__  Ku____n. With guys like Casey Bailey, Kerby Rychel & Nick Lappin possible call ups. Plus expect to welcome top draft pick from last year Pavel Zacha & returned veteran, and team Captain, Dan Hamhuis. Deeper!

We still have a whack in cash, several attractive goalie assets to make potential moves with. Those with a need for goaltending depth or a starter should call? Anyone who has cap trouble should be on the line? We're open to take on cap dumps smaller for free, bigger if we receive compensation or make hockey trades for core guys with bigger contracts coming into, or are in their prime you will have trouble fitting in your structure...  We're after any decent assets. Tops on the list are a Top 9 centre, Top 4 D, draft picks or cap dumps or simple cap dumps.

This GM has my full respect, taking it to the hard places and working along the boards to get er done. I am happy a trade was finally accepted by the league, and will be announced soon, Nik K. We will miss you, but in todays cap world, its about being a value, not just a great player. Good luck in the future Mr K., and of course best of luck at the World Cup in the coming week of playoffs. I wish I didn't have to clear the cap space as it was the contract, not the player, that had to go.

As expected, Mikhail Grabovski failed his physical and will begin the season on the IR. We were worried it would come to this, and made accommodations if this scenario played out, but we are most worried about the long-term health of the player. We will offer our full supports to help him in his recovery, but don't expect him to play any time soon.

With this expected opening on the roster, we will enter camp with it unfilled so that the kids have something to strive for. We hope a guy like Steve Santini or Dylan Sadowy will step up and take that spot, but anybody will have the chance to earn it with a solid camp. If nobody does though, we do have options with Grabovski's $5m expected to be on the IR.
