Primal Optimist
Beginning this season, I would like to introduce a more accurate waivers situation for us. The same waivers rules would apply as we have used up to this moment, however a "10 games played or 30 days waiver free period" will apply to any waived player who is NOT CLAIMED and therefore passes waivers. From the date of the original waiver the individual player will be able to move up and down waiver free until that player has played in 10 NHL games or for 30 consecutive days, whichever happens first. If anyone has any ideas to objections to voice, please do so before Sept 30th and please, no flaming of someones thoughts on the issue. If it proves controversial we won't change a thing..if there are valid reasons not to, we wont change a thing, and if everyone likes and approves of the idea we will make this change. Democracy at work, but through consensus in this case. It is a bit of extra monitoring work, which I am willing to do, but that is the only drawback i can see to helping make our waivers process more NHL like. EDIT: this does not mean if you claim a player you can move him to your minors...only players who go unclaimed through the initial waiver process. Thats what you have earned here tonight. One Game. If we played em ten times they might win nine. But not this game. Not tonight. Tonight we skate with them, we stay with them and we shut them down because we can. Tonight we are the greatest hockey team in the world. You were born to be hockey players, every one of you. You were meant to be here tonight. This is your time. Their time is done, it is over. I am sick and tired of hearing about what a great hockey team the Soviets have, screw em, this is your time, now go out there and take it!" Much better with the poetic license, yes? ahahaha, and my personal favourite "think you can win on talent alone? Gentlemen, you don't have enough talent to win on talent alone". aGENT
My only concern about the waivers change would be my own monitoring of it. I'd hate to get screwed and have to keep a guy up or re-risk him on waivers because I got busy at work, went on vacation, kids got sick etc. Unless you mean you'll be monitoring it to help notify us rather than strictly as enforcement? I know we strive for realism here but sadly we aren't ACTUALLY GM's with management teams to help remind us of these things when we're busy and NHL GM salaries that let our wives be of the stay at home variety with additional nanny and maid help... You raise a good point. I won't be specifically whispering GM's about each player's waiver eligibility, but I will keep the active ones up to date in a post on page one. I have two of the first posts right after all the Posts from the Commish.....and I would have players who have recently cleared waivers, or been claimed off waivers, listed there..and could note there also that they are waiver free until such and such a time. If you make an error the Commish would likely hold you to account for the error. ((I can only think of one type of error and that would be waiting too long to send down a guy and missing the waiver free 30 day window by a a day or two..in which case you would be exposing a borderline nhl'er that you already exposed 40 days ago)) Would that suffice do you think? I know we strive for realism here but sadly we aren't ACTUALLY GM's with management teams to help remind us of these things when we're busy and NHL GM salaries that let our wives be of the stay at home variety with additional nanny and maid help... In medieval times, GML had rules in place so that if you sent a player down, and he was (known or unknown) waivers eligible, guys could snipe your players based on a stupid mistake. It happened relatively often, and was a somewhat underhanded way to acquire a player, and an unrealistic situation in general (NHL teams don't accidentally lose players). I personally pushed for this to be rectified, as I lost a player once and it really sucked... cause i didn't have time to check his birthday, and it was by a week. Everyone (i think) agreed, and we've been running on a different system for a couple years now, which is seemless. If you `send a player down` and he requires waivers, you will simply be told your transaction didn't process as the player is waivers eligible. A player only goes on waivers if you type the word `waivers` in your post. It still comes at a cost, as whatever roster transaction you made that day, wont count, as the move wouldn't be able to process. Likewise, the guys in the thread will pick up on it pretty quickly, and we do like to publicly mock a bad GM every once in a while. Your rep is all your risk. You are right, its just a game, and we just want it to be fun. Moral of the story is, be a good GM.

Primal Optimist
As a fan of the game, and of Nik's it is hard to say goodbye to such a stellar player, and if not for today's cap sensitive league we wouldn't dare allow a current World Cup of Hockey top four teams player slip away, sadly though we must continue to seek cap refuge where we can, and so I must reluctantly say good luck in all your future endeavours to Nik Kulemin, a superior player for so long in this league. My hat is off to you. The flip side of that coin is we get to welcome a young prospect to the New York Rangers system in 21 year old Jonathan-Ismael Diaby. Quote Diaby is blessed with huge size and athleticism and is a punishing force on the blue line. His physical stature makes the lives of opposing players difficult as they try to enter into the offensive zone. He pairs that size with a nasty edge, allowing him to play a physical style without sacrificing positioning. He can make a solid first pass out of the zone, but his game is primarily defense-first.Read more at http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/jonathan-ismael-diaby/#MdGA2ABus5XovVO6.99 Quote “Big is an understatement,” said one scout. “He came into the combine at 250 pounds and at 6-foot-5, I don’t know if he’s done growing. He’s going to be interesting. He may be one of the most naturally physical players in the draft.” We think we might have rough gem here in this 6 foot 5 inch tall 235 pounder, and we need guys like him in our system, very happy to have him and looking forward to seeing what he brings in the next few years. During these buyout periods, teams can buy players out of their contracts if they so desire. Any teams buying out a contract will incur a cap hit of 33% of the players annual salary for each remaining year of the contract. Players must clear unconditional waivers before they can be bought out. Please be reminded that the Buyout window is currently open. If you have a buyout you intend to do, waive the player stating the intention to buy them out, and if they are not claimed then their buyout will be processed.
