To anyone who is still lusting after Tkachuk, relax! Sometime in the next 2 seasons, Calgary will be offering him to us for either a second-round pick or a late-first-round pseudo-prospect.

Doubt it. Tkachuk will be a impact player in his prime.

Yes, Tkatchuk is going to be a good player. No one is doubting that. It's just annoying when people vastly underestimate Juolevi. He literally has no faults in his game. He just needs to get stronger and work on his slap shot. This guy in 3 years could be paired with Tryamkin and be one of the best defensive pairs in the league.

Not being strong enough is definitely a fault.

Yes he'll get stronger, but lets not pretend this guy is a lock to be a first pairing guy just yet.

Hes 18/19. He's got a great frame. 6'3. I was 170 pounds when I was 19. I'm a pretty big guy now... People fill out. There are no guarantees your right, but I'd be surprised if he doesn't end up a 1st pairing guy when he's fully developed.

Being big and being strong are two different things though. Taylor Pyatt was big.

It's how he uses his strength that's important too.

Pyatt didn't have elite hockey iq like Juolevi though.

"Elite" gets used too loosely on here I think.

He's a great prospect don't get me wrong. But D-men take a long time to ever reach a top level, and more often than not they don't reach their ceilings. He's still got a LONG ways to go before he becomes a regular top 4 D, let alone a top pairing one.

Sami Salo had a similiar frame to Juolevi. Skill and smarts beats brute and strength.

Salo was a tough guy too. The guy ruptured a nut (literally) and missed one game.  If we have another Sami in Olli, then that's a win.

I remember when Sami would get a game star but you weren't exactly sure why.  Did all of the little things right.  Whenever Sami was out of the lineup it was noticeable.  I think that is the impact OJ might have.

Salo was also injured every time someone even farted in his direction. Not a great example to use for durability. Smarts got &#!$ kicked on a regular basis with salo actually. For every undersized d man that makes it work, there are ten undersized d men with separated shoulders

I saw him (Juolevi) this fall in Penticton.  He is a very smart player, great positionally, great outlet pass, he'll be a guy with lots of 'third' assists' on great breakouts - if he gets strong enough.  The second best Canuck defenceman in Penticton, was McEneny - he is already big and strong enough, and has a very good shot.  Utica plays him in the last minute of each period, first unit on the PK, and last minute of the game  on a team laden with experienced defensemen.  Hopefully, one day our next Willie MItchell, but who can shoot the puck.

Nope. He won't be 20 and he hasn't played 4 seasons of junior that would make him qualify to play in the AHL. So it is either NHL or Juniors for him next year.

And probably junior unfortunately. I think he'll need more time, being so comparatively young, to gain more strength. He'd likely be best served in Utica though.
