Off topic here...but I would consider a #1C and and a true #1D to be completely even..(Seth Jones=Johanssen).

I think this logic is part of the reason Benning took Juolevi after Columbus picked Dubois. Juolevi was the consensus choice to be the first defenceman selected because he looked the most NHL ready at the time. But the thing is part of being NHL ready is situational opportunity.

Mikhail Sergachev was lucky enough to get traded to a stacked team in Tampa and could be sheltered.

Jakob Chychrun was guaranteed to make the roster in Arizona.

Charlie McAvoy was damn impressive in 6 playoff games he started in. But he only got that opportunity because Torey Krug and Brandon Carlo were injured.

lol benning did not win the 2017 draft.. Colorado did... ppg defenseman that can also play defense>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>ppg centers.. the fact that we wasted 2 top 6 picks on atm non impact player and possible will never be impact player.. and we are sitting here watching this team struggle to score and thinking to ourselves are we done rebuilding yet is kinda sad

Laughable post.  You think makar is so much better than Petey that you type  >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.  You are clueless pal.

Real NHL commentators have already said Petey would go first in a re draft. But you, some guy, don't agree.  Haha....good god....

Based on what?

He is already 7th in scoring with every other defencemen ahead of him older and it is his 1st year as well

If you said that about Hughes ……. imagine the responses

When is the last time you would say a Dman recently was considered in the top 5 players in the league? Probably only Lidstrom in his prime and maybe a year of Erik Karlsson when he carried the sens to the ECF.  Again not knocking Makar I definitely think he will be a Norris contender for years, EP is already considered one of the best talents to come out of sweden in history.

Oh I thought you were talking among defencemen

A top d man will drive a lot of the forward play

Most top rated  forwards and teams usually has a top rated d man

Eh the last dman that was top 5 was Karlsson before his injuries when he was putting up insane numbers as goal scoring was going down and was carrying his team with his play and could carry the Sens even injured. He was the best thing since Lidstrom at that point but injuries brought EK back down to earth.

Leagues getting more offensive. I don’t think Makar or anyone for that matter can reach that sort of godly level Karlsson was at before he got hurt.

Not so fun fact: Excluding the recent 2019 draft, Olli Juolevi is the only top 5 pick in NHL Entry draft history to not suit up for a game. If Turcotte and Byram manage to get into a game at the end of the season/playoffs Olli will hold the distinction outright as I don't see him getting called up this season.

Why would he not? If he keeps playing well and remains healthy then I can easily see him getting a few games look in the NHL.

He may not be ready for a full time role at this point, but he'll get there eventually

Is he playing well though? Well enough to deserve a call up to the NHL?

He is frequently on the wrong side of goals being scored and 8 assists in 22 games isn't exactly outstanding contribution offensively.

Rafferty will get the call up long before Juolevi

I mean he's still getting used to the league but to write him off for the whole year as an NHL callup seems excessive

I mean anything can happen but with his injuries and average play I'd say it's a lot more likely he doesn't play in the NHL this year than he does.

Maybe if we're out of the playoffs and they want to give him a taste and he plays really well from here on I could see it but I'd bet Rafferty, Teves, and Brisebois would get the call before him.

Juolevi has played a combined 50 games in the AHL, Rafferty has played 30 games total. Juolevi has played 22 this season and Rafferty 30. Just to keep the math correct

Fantenberg

Brisebois

Sautner

Juolevi

Teves

that is likely what our left side depth order is. Juolevi hasn’t looked great this year other than blocking shots - either way without getting into what ifs my original point still stands

Rafferty is 24 Juolevi is 21....

I am sure that  if Oli can stay injury free for the rest of the season...we will be talking about bringing them both up as a duo for the playoffs...
