Was listening to Patterson and Drance's podcast, and they were already writing this guy off as an NHL defensemen at 22 years old and 9 NHL games. After closely watching him through 11 games, my observations:

  • Overall solid play
  • Good vision, passing and decision making with the puck, tends to make the smart solid plays
  • Has a good wrist shot, but seems like kind of a weak slap shot
  • Isn't afraid to jump up into the offensive zone, seems confident in doing it
  • He's a good penalty killer
  • Continues to get better and more confident every game
  • Seems a bit slow, and skating could use improvement. makes the occassional rookie mistake

I thought his shot looked pretty sneaky so far, just one goal so far but I think he's going to catch a few goalies sleeping with it

I do love how some of the prominent Twitter voices like Faber and the beat writers like Dayal and especially Shah all gave the OJ props.

Hope Satiar Shah, IMac and Murph talk about him once in one of the intermissions maybe Monday.

Not just mad that we drafted him, but mad subsequent years afterwards.

I'm starting to have a good feeling this is going to be an "I told you so" scenario against those people who were against OJ. This is why you don't judge prospects without actual proof.

For sure.  Also, it's important to understand the impact that injuries (and recovery) have such an impact on athletes; especially developing athletes.  Just seeing how long it has taken Boeser to come back from his injuries is an eyeopener. The last couple of years many fans thought he should be traded.

Lol I remember when everyone was mad that we drafted him. If we drafted someone else who knows if we’d be with the guys we drafted after. Mad respect to OJ for continuously grinding and getting better every game.

my wife and I were at the draft party at Rogers Arena when OJ was picked. People all around us were thrilled "we going to get Tkachuk" and then THUD, Jim pick Juolevi. The shock and disappointment by many in there was palpable.

I didn't want Tkatpuke, I'm old enough to remember his dad and couldn't stand the sob and didn't want his loser kid here. I was hoping Edmonton would pick OJ and we'd get Puljujarvi. Really Edmonton should have picked OJ, they so desperately needed a top pairing d prospect.

“Olli is getting a lot better at using his voice and I think it’s helping our breakouts a lot more,” said Myers. “He’s playing well for not having a lot of games under his belt and I think he just keeps improving each and every game.”
