I just like these guys more. Mittelstadt is close though.

WARNING: Serious Necas hype coming up here.

Necas is going to be an unbelievable player in the NHL. He doesn't get as much exposure as most of the other prospects at the top of this draft class, but honestly, over any other forward in this draft (other than Hischier and to a lesser extent Patrick) I think that he has the highest offensive ceiling. People underestimate how easily his game will transfer to the NHL too. He still has some filling in to do, but it's his exceptional overall skating, playmaking ability, two-way play, puck pursuit, etc. that's going to allow him to crack an NHL roster spot sooner rather than later. Oh, and I forgot to mention that he's already playing against men and absolutely killed it in the playoffs in Czech's top league.

He reminds me so much of Pastrnak it's insane. If he was maybe 20 lbs. heavier, he'd be #1 on my list. Size is vital if you want to be a top centre in the NHL (unless you have godly physical abilities like McDavid). I think Button is pretty close to bang on with the Giroux comparison. Necas is the epitome of a high reward player, and I don't think it would be a risky pick at all. For sure by the 2018-2019 season, you'll have a player who's ready to play in the NHL. He is even eligible for Utica next year!

He's cemented as my #3 forward in this draft, and not far behind the top-2 at all.

The Vancouver Canucks have him very high on their list.  Top 5 pick for sure maybe even top 3

Last week I was so sure that Nolan would go 1st overall and have a legendary career in the league..

But I must admit I was wrong; if our luck turns up like the rest of the Canadian teams and we get 1st or 2nd we can't turn down the oppurtunity to draft NICO   if we don't get him Patrik is a good number two option. But Nico is going to be MacDavid-esque, and we can't be stupid and not try to move up to land him right away. If we do get Nico, we will haver number 1 Center. For many years.

Common JB Please be smart enough to pick him if you can, even if it means moving up 1 spot to pick 1st overall and picking Nico.

A 3rd to move up.

Yeah but it really doesn't mean anything, everyone develops at different ages, some kids bloom at 16 some at 23... Matthews missed the cut off by 6 days and it really doesn't mean a thing....Fast forward a year, do you think any of the kids taken in the top 5 are better than matthews?

Last year Patrick put up 102 points as 17 year old and ended up 5th in points.  Even if he was in last years draft he would have been in the top 3 (ahead of Dubois).  But using age can not be used as a knock against a player,  the only thing age can be used for is to sell hope that the younger player can still grow.

Craig button believes he would of gone between 5-10 range last season.  too me for how they are hyping him that seems low. but Craig is a better expert then any of us.

For me, based on organisational need and a few top D men being available next year, it's currently:

  1. Hischier - Probably the best player, but the fact that he can go straight to the AHL is the clincher
  2. Vilardi - Just really like this kid
  3. Patrick - Injuries and relative age are an issue for me (won't exactly be upset if we get to select him though!)
  4. Mittelstadt
  5. Suzuki - some publications have him in the late 20s so If he's on the board @ 25 we need to look at trading up from the top of the 2nd round (or 31st)!

That's quite the claim there.

Have you seen said list?

Where is this list and how have you seen it?

A while back I summarized a post I found on HFBoards. There was a guy on there who claimed to have inside information. Apparently last year he predicted that the Canucks would take Juolevi over Tkachuk at the midway point of the season. This same guy said the Canucks are very high on Necas and have Vilardi and Mittlestadt rated lower than fans might expect.

I'm not sure if the person you quoted is the same person or not, but just a possibility. I would the information above with a grain of salt as well.

If Vilardi is rated low on the Canucks draft list Bennings an idiot. I find this hard to believe though.

I can't confirm or deny whether he is or not, just what I heard.

I think Necas could really surprise some people in terms of how high he goes, how soon he steps into the NHL and how well he does.

Do you really think Benning is going to draft a small centre when we already have  Dahlin, Granlund, Baer, Goldobin. I guess it's possible especially if we pick 5th. Rather have Vilardi, Mittelstadt or Cody Glass though.

This was posted just five days ago for those looking for more footage.

I think his career path will be very similar to that of Pastrnak's thus far. Looking at stats to determine a player's future isn't something that I'm the biggest fan of but if you look at their international numbers, Pastrnak's numbers in the AHL/NHL in his draft+ season (and even size for that matter), there are many parallels. It's safe to say that in a re-draft of the 2014 class Pastrnak would for sure go in the top-5. If we want to take a forward that isn't Patrick or Hischier, I would hate to see this guy slip away from us. Keep in mind too that before we hired Benning, he had spent most of that season in Boston where he would have scouted Pastrnak at the World Juniours, the WJC-18 tournament, and possibly elsewhere. I do realize that he selected McCann one pick before the B's took Pastrnak, but whatever the case (whether it be prioritizing selecting a centre (doesn't really matter)), you can bet that Benning had a lot to do with the Bruins drafting Pastrnak, and I can see why he would love a guy like Necas as well.

I know I've been pretty persistent in preaching the good name of Martin Necas to you guys, but I'm just trying to get the point across that Necas being higher on some teams lists (which is certainly the case) than guys like Mittelstadt and Vilardi isn't as stupid and idiotic as some of you make it out to be.

So you heard from a guy on the internet.

Legit.

It may sound crazy, but I had the Canucks picking Juolevi too.

Does that make me an insider?

I just really dont see the canucks going that far off the board with the 3-4 pick.

I'd put money them picking Liljegrin after number 2
