Watching the U18s Liljegren doesn't deserve the billing of best dman in the draft. It is now Heiskanen or Makar. Miro Heiskanen has been amazing at the U18s with 12 points in 5 games as a dman......

Heiskanen has really burst onto the scene hasnt he!

Trade downs don't happen very often but if we're not top 2 I also wouldn't dislike a trade down for Suzuki, Pettersson, Makar or Liljigren. Whichever guy falls to around that 10 spot.

Necas, Makar, Glass, Pettersson, Suzuki, Heiskanen... I'd be fine with any of them around 10-15 + return for trading down if we're outside the top 2.

Playing the Foppa card to try to butter me up!

The way he protects the puck is very Foppa esq.

Sven is a good 2nd liner. Boeser looks like he'll probably be a 1st liner but that's not in stone and hopefully one of Goldy/Dahlen can become a 1st liner but again... not written in stone.

Also none of them are C's (or project to be). We need a guy with 1C offensive potential to at the very least feed/play off of Boeser (and whoever else ends up on that line).

That's the think though outside of the generational Talents, look at what the successful teams have for their #1 centers.  Toews, Kopitar, Bergeron, and Getzlaf.  These are highly gifted two way players, nothing too flashy about their games but they go out there and work hard and tend to produce.  Players that can consistently put the 70 point range. That's they type of player I see in Vilardi.

Not many pure offensive #1 centers in the NHL outside of generational talents.  Backstrom is very underrated in his two way game, the guy kills PK and is always out there to defend leads and win draws. Hank, RNH, Granlund, Turris, Duchene, Kuznetsov and at one point Spezza.

In fact if you look at the new crop coming into the league you got, Barkov, Scheifele, Matthews, Johnansen or have two way elements to their game, where the skilled offensive first guys have started their NHL careers on the wing, Nylander, Marner, Bennett, Konecny

Maybe that is Vilardi, and if that's what Benning and Co decide, I'll support it the pick. After all, they do have a lot more and better information and experience to go off. I'm just not seeing it myself.

i'm the same, who ever they pick i'll support.  I just see a core player in Vilardi where I see the other players (outside nico and nolan) as nice complimentary pieces (Kessel, Gaborik)

Or maybe they have a trade lined up...something like Hutton + Baer for a young, play making C. By all means, I'd be far more open to Vilardi in that case as well as I think he'd look fantastic on Horvat's W, eventually on the 2nd line.

After the tryamkin move, I think Hutton is locked up to be a canuck for a while.

People keep bringing this up as an option.  I agree that it might not be a bad option for us but who would want to move up and why?

Yeah, no kidding. I also doubt we move both Edler and Tanev anymore either. Tryamkin kinda &^@#'ed us on that one didn't he

Yep, I'm in shock, especially after year end when they asked him if him if he had any desire to go back and play in the KHL, and without hesitation he said no, he wants to be in the NHL.

Who knows,  maybe he thinks with the NHL saying no to Olympics he thought his chances of making team Russia were good if he stayed in the K.

His determination to stay in the NHL probably waned as he experienced life in North America and began to miss his family.

New scenarios now that Tryamkin bolted.

1.  Trade a pick to save Sbisa.  Sign UFA d man to anchor 5-6 and bring up OJ forced to draft D man to replace depth?

2.  Trade Edler or Tanev for decent first.  Draft Patrick/Vilardi/Hischier and subsequently Foote/Heskainen/Hague (?) As they're NHL sized and insert them on Blue line allowing OJ another year to develop

3.  Do #2 but trade down to 5-9 and draft Glass Suzuki Necas Petterson and ensure we get a can't miss D prospect in return while still drafting a solid D man with our secondary pick in the first round.

Losing Tryamkin really messed us up

Who needs a right side D from 8-15'ish and is closer to contending? Dallas, LA and Tampa?

Tanev to one of them and draft a D. Maybe even the pick + (especially Tampa at 14).

The press conference where he had no desire to go back to the K was last week...

Well you think he'd really want to be 100% honest in front of the entire Vancouver media? If I was in his position, I'd rather take that straight to management, not put it out for the media to feed on for days.

If he and/or management knew he was heading back to Russia, he shouldn't have even been part of the press conference and put in a position to have to lie.

After Tryamkin bolting for the KHL and seeing so many NCAA kids opting for free agency or back in to the draft to ensure the team they want to play on is theirs...you sure you wanna risk a top 5 pick on a kid that could just walk or bolt to America's siberia in Minnesota?

How many top 5 picks from US have stayed in college for the full 4 years recently? I'll help you out; it's Blake Wheeler. He was drafted in 2004 (13 years ago). Chances of Mittelstadt not signing with Canucks is close to 0.
