canuckswincup8
my guess: dallas top 3: vilardi heiskanen mittelstadt avs top 3: heiskanen glass vilardi if dallas takes vilardi, avs then drafts heiskanen leaving mittelstadt, glass and others for the canucks. I think canucks draft mittelstadt in this scenario. if dallas takes heiskanen then avs drafts glass. That leaves vilardi mittelstadt and others like makar for the canucks to choose from. Mittelstadt is most likely to be a canuck on draft day is my guess. Edited June 1, 2017 by canuckswincup8
Honky Cat
I'm starting to lean over to the Mittelstadt pick lately...Canucks are starting to have a tendency to pick from the USHL,so picking him would not be a surprise..(.6'1, 201lbs..thats pretty solid for an 18year old).. Vilardi and Heiskanen still seem to be the favourite 3 and 4 picks... I don't see the Canucks taking Tippett, basically because he's a RW.... Yeah i think it's telegraphed that Mittelstadt is the guy JB has at the top of his list. Not a bad pick at all. I don't think Vilardi will be there at 5 but even if he was I think JB stays with casey
Warhippy
Can someone fill me in. I've heard more than a few people stating Tolvanen as a better potential winger than Tippett with Tippett showing the same characteristics as Virtanen. Anyone want to clarify that? Mittel and Vilardi could very well be gone 3 and 4 and IMO there's guys as good/better than Heiskanen (though I would not be upset to pick him). Could very well be: Hischier Patrick Mittelstadt Vilardi At 5 in that scenario I'd personally take Glass, Liljegrin or Necas before Heiskanen, though the Canucks are certainly welcome to feel otherwise.

I just have a feeling that one of dallas or colorado takes heiskanen the way heiskanen has risen up so fast in the rankings and both those clubs need a dman badly to add to it. Yeah but they need a dman now, not a dman who won't likely be ready for even a bottom pair role for 3+ years. All the more reason I see them (DAL especially) either taking a forward or trading the pick.

He's a lot less than 3+ years out. He could be in that role as early as the 2018 season.

Even then it's far more likely they move Duchene/Landeskog etc for a D IMO. Ceratinly 'possible' (for either team) but IMO, it's not likely. My call as well -- it's a JB pick'em, but wouldn't be shocked if he took someone else either.

He's far more likely to be in the NHL making an impact in 2 years than your 3+ year guess. In the 5 years (2010-2015), 21 D were drafted in the top 10, only 5 weren't in the NHL by the time they turned 20. That's 76% of the D picked being NHL players before your 3+ year assumption. Stars have an open window for the next 5-7 years, they can afford to wait two more years to develop another top pairing LHD. And if they can't wait they can throw a boat load of the cap they have at Alzner this year to fill in as a stop gap. The Av's haven't even got near to opening their window so what ever player they draft he will develop right inline with the rest of their roster

Love to hear your thoughts on the Hawks and Kings windows too Agreed on Av's (which is why I concede it's possible) but I still think they'd prefer to move Duchene etc for a early 20's D than draft an 18 year old one and pick a forward instead. That doesn't mean I think it's impossible Mr. Black and White.
