I might even trade down a few spots and take Foote. Edited June 4, 2017 by messier's_elbow

Nucker 67
What is there so much negativity towards Rasmussen? Is a 6'5" 205 lb C not a good thing? He's a point-a-game player in the WHL, looks like a man playing against boys. Be a tough guy to move from the front of the net. I wouldn't take him at #5, but I'm curious why some dislike him so much.

420since1974
IMO, Mittelstadt would be the right pick for the Canucks at #5. I don't think I'd spend the assets required to move up in the draft, but might consider dropping down to later in the first round, if the compensation was attractive enough. Whether a soft or a hard rebuild, I feel that Vancouver should be stockpiling draft picks for the next couple of seasons.

At 16th sure. 5th no

With big guys it's sometimes hard to tell if they're doing well due to talent or because they're just bigger and more physically mature than most. Once that player gets to the NHL, then that size advantage disappears, so if he relied on being bigger than everyone, he won't be as effective. Some see Rasmussen falling in that category. I wish someone could do some comparisons from previous combines to see how the relation turned out in hindsight. Different sport, but Kevin Durant couldn't do one bench press of 185 at the NBA combine and he turned out to be an MVP. The guy who did the best in the tests didn't end up being drafted. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nba/2017/05/11/kevin-durant-questions-nba-combine-importance/101542802/

cuporbust
Hey guys. Looks like Benning may go somewhat off the board again this year with Elias Petterson. Very interesting. Could be a very good pick. Article : When the Vancouver Canucks fell from the 2nd position all the down the the 5th position as a result of the NHL’s Draft Lottery, the collective sigh from the team’s fanbase could be felt across the province of British Columbia. However, over a month later and the team seems content with their position. “We feel at 5 we’re going to still get a good player. Whether it’s a forward of a defenseman, we’re getting a skilled player,” said general manager Jim Benning when discussing the draft with TSN insider Pierre LeBrun. A rumor circulating today however indicates that Benning may not have been with as forthcoming with LeBrun as it appeared. It appears like the team is zeroing in on the two forwards as options for the 5th overall selection. Both players are lauded and accomplished offensive talents and put up big numbers in 2016-17. In Glass’ case he produced 32 goals and 94 points in just 69 games with the WHL’s Portland Winterhawks this season, while Petterson produced 19 goals and 40 points in 43 games for Timra, alongside Canucks prospect Jonathan Dahlen. https://www.hockeyfeed.com/nhl-news/report-canucks-inviting-top-prospects-to-vancouver-for-exclusive-interviews Pettersson draft profile : Edited June 4, 2017 by cuporbust
Wonder__Bread
Seems my eye for talent isn't that far behind Bennings I'd love Pettersson at 5th overall, he may just end up to be one of the best players in this years draft.
Sedintwinpowersactivate
Very interesting! If true there is no need to trade up. In fact if Petterson is their guy they should consider trading down.

I like what I've heard about him.
cuporbust
Ya he is exactly what Benning described as their target. A playmaking centre ( that also plays wing) that can run a powerplay. Sounds like Benning was literally reading this guys draft report when he said that. Lol.
diesel_3
Wonder if they are working on a deal to move up to 3 and then take Pettersson at 5?
