Makar will be light years better than ehrhoff, and our transition game will be very quick with a juolevi - Makar combination. Again, if we take Makar at 3, I'd bet Vilardi is there at 5 for us. Wait, we have 3rd and 5th? Dream on fella.

Nave
If we are indeed looking for "speed and skill" I think we'll take Makar, Mittelstadt, or Pettersson. Two out of the three if we get another top 10 pick would be amazing.
Nucker 67
I would be very happy with Vilardi, Glass or Pettersson. I've decided to add Pettersson to my list because he has fantastic speed and skill. Yes, he's underweight but he has time to develop. He's so dynamic, and I can almost see the goals he'd score with Dahlen on his wing. Any of those three and I'll be happy.

Maybe we win the draft lottery next year for going half-way 'round the world to a War Zone (!) before we start the season. Dahlin will be our #1 D behind no-one in our lineup, and probable Calder Cup winner on his way to a string of Norris Trophies. The Canucks should do anything to land this kid. Ooops, 2017 draft, at 5th overall: Vilardi or Glass, imo. Trade Tanev and anyone else (not named Bo, Boes, Demko, Juolevi, #5 this year, Dahlen) who can get a lotto pick. Add a cap dump or two as well. All in JB!

Honestly at this point, I could argue to pick any of Vilardi, Makar, Pettersson, Glass, Heiskanen, or Mittlestadt at 5. I think out out of those names, I'd be most excited with Makar. We've never had that kind of skill on the blue line. That kind of movement and creativity opens up so much more offence for the forwards. And to already have his cerebral calm and collective d partner already drafted, man could they be a nice looking pairing! Obviously the homerun would be to snap up the #3 pick and take both Makar and Vilardi/glass/Pettersson They need to trade Tanev...get that third pick if they keep Tanev it will be very disappointing

And what if Vilardi turns out like Jake or Gaunce? I know, kind of stupid, but what if? Some people really hate that Virtanen was picked over Nylander, and I wonder if this another opportunity to draft a super skilled Swede C. No way Valardi turns into Virtanen. His hockey IQ is way higher than Virtanen. If he gets his skating together to go wirh his play making ability and strength he will be a star

Pettersson could become the better player between him, Glass, and Valardi. Just like Filip forsberg went #11 in 2012 and Erik Karlsson #15 in 2008. Arguably the top player in their respective drafts yet went outside of the top 10. I really like his offensive upside and compete, I just don't like his body. I would still pick Glass over him. Glass is a better fit for our team. We need size playing in the west and for the playoffs when anything goes. Plus Glass is a play maker and will turn out to be a good NHL'er. In other words, Benning will probably draft Pettersson and a lot of people, including myself, will have varying degrees of post traumatic stress disorder, at least temporarily anyway. That's fair argument. You pointed it out yourself though, he looks like the best player in the draft if not for his weight. Let me ask you though, If we had to bet on a 6 ft 2 17 year old who will be on a strict diet and workout plan for the foreseeable future, would you bet on him gaining weight or staying the same weight? That's why I think it isn't much of a risk simply because I know he will get bigger. I like Glass but when you watch him play he doesn't seem like much of a playmaker, he always seems like the trigger man. He reminds me more of a young Kesler. I haven't watched that much of him so maybe I just missed the games where he showcased his playmaking side, but I really didn't see that in his game. What I did see though is like Kesler, someone who always makes the right decision with the puck. Not the greatest passer, but always makes the safe play. That's a valuable attribute, I just think that he lacks the creativity to be a high end 1st line center. Edit: Basically just saying that he doesn't run the powerplay or run the show, he uses his teammates to get him in a better position to score. I think he'll be a great player once he puts on some weight, I just think Pettersson is the better fit and you shouldn't have PTSD after the pick Edited June 20, 2017 by Wonder__Bread

Yes I know this is the 2017 draft, but people seem to respond better to highlights. Hughes Dahlin Merkley Remember if you're comparing them to Makar, these kids doing this against stronger comp, while being over a full year younger (merkley is almost two years younger). Sorry for derailing the 2017 draft with 2018 players.... Back to the 2017 draft. Center this year (vilardi, Glass, Mittel, Pettersson), one of these D next....
