McKenzie can be described as a smart defensive forward who skates well and is excellent on the draw. He is not overly physical, but is overall awareness in all 3 zones is coveted. Having already been through 2 deep playoff runs, McKenzie already has a wealth of experience as an 18 year old. Look for him to see his role increase offensively next season with North Bay has he has the skating and passing tools to generate in the offensive zone. (Tyler Parchem, EP 2015)

First time this draft that I've been mildly disappointed, thought this pick would have been good to use on Ronning.

Sentimentality aside, Brett MacKenzie is welcome here and hope he turns out to be a good one.

Should be a good pick. He was projected to go around the middle rounds last year and was passed over. Showed good improvements this past season (ie: if we'd drafted him last year, we'd probably be quite happy with his D+1 progression). Looks like a decent prospect.

Have to say, however, that it's interesting we're going after 19 years olds. Taking a page out of an old Gillis draft strategy. ;)
