elvis15
Had to beat Sid to one of these, he's been doing yeoman's work posting the links and an excerpt for the rankings so far. http://canucksarmy.com/2017/1/20/canucks-army-midterm-prospect-rankings-8-will-lockwood Quote ... Chris Dilks of SB Nation noted that "He’s got the agility to side-step checks to get through the neutral zone, and his speed keeps opposing defensemen off-balance and forces them to be conservative with their gaps, allowing him to gain easy zone entry." This ability is reflected in his underlying numbers, and although we have just a tiny sample of them, we like what we see. Cory Sznajder, tracker extraordinaire, tracked a pair of Michigan Wolverines games prior to the start of the NHL season, to get himself in the tracking mood I suppose. During those two games (a 4-3 Michigan loss, and a 4-0 Michigan win), Lockwood impressed in a number of statistical categories: he led all Michigan forwards in shot assists (passes prior to a shot) and 5-on-5 carry-type zone entries, and carry-in percentage, while also leading all forwards on either team in zone exits with possession. Lockwood didn't get the opportunity to play for his country at the World Junior Championships earlier this month, although TSN's Craig Button thought that his play warranted him at least an invite to selection camp. That said, he's still got next year. If he were to stick with the path he's currently on now, he should have a very good chance of making the 2018 USA squad. If there is an agreeable consensus to be found between the scouting reports and statistical models like pGPS, it might be this: we don't exactly know what Lockwood is projecting to be at this point - but we certainly like where he's headed.

In the history of the Canucks there have been some exceptional players, many not in the ROH. Smyl, Linden and Bure were all on CUP final teams and were key players who got them there. They all had multiple examples of key plays that carried their teams. Naslund never got pass the 2nd Round. I can agree that it is not all on his head. That does not change reality. The Twins will have their #'s retired as they should. It might sound harsh but that is my take. I will throw out Thomas Gradin's name as a great player as well who did not have as strong a team to play with as Naslund. Gradin produced scoring records that stood until Bure came along. Gradin took his club to the '82 Finals and was 4th in Playoff scoring that year. No ROH for him? Naslund had some great 'regular season' scoring stats but CUP play is what it is all about. ROH yes, # Retirement no.
Boudrias
Watched Lockwood last night on SN. Really impressed with his game. Berenson had him playing on the 1stPP, he PK'ed and played a very solid positional game. Top that with finishing his checks regularly. There was nothing he did not do. Don't know his stats. I think he scored but that was secondary to what I saw of his overall game.

ROH yes, # Retirement no. naslund was the second longest serving captain in team history when his jersey went to the rafters, and to that point was the only canuck to win league MVP. if smyl and linden deserved it, so did naslund. I think he has potential to have a very impressive sophomore season next year. And his trajectory, from USDP to NCAA, in terms of both usage and production, in looking very good. From @Boudrias 0 Gradin is a former Canuck that I too feel very strongly should be in the ROH. He and Smyl made each other, to a point. If Fraser had been treated properly when he fell ill, instead of what happened, then he would have been with these two as the Canucks first line for a while; we wouldn't be discussing "if" for Gradin, it would have already happened. kenhodgejr
Lockwood, Virtanen, and Boesser are setting us up for a lot of depth on RW. Much better than the days of Nicolas Jensen
Derp...
His speed is pretty crazy, hopefully he can bring it all together on a more consistent level. In a few years we could see Eriksson Horvat Boeser Baertschi Gaudette (<-- pretty please?) Virtanen Granlund Sutter Lockwood Carcone Gaunce Cassels (Probably some mishmash)
KKnight
if only he could teach virtanen to play like this. I love the way he uses his speed. His game breaking ability, edginess, d coverage is very impressive. This guy will at the very least be a great penalty killer and pop in 10-15 a year.
