Not sure how you'd figure that...?

Green has trusted him a lot in the past, he's played loads with Pearson and Horvat and without a true other top 6 forward, that's where he'll be sadly.

I do hope Leivo is healthy to play because that's an easy swap. All depends on how the kids come to training camp.

I'm not seeing it...I think (barring additional moves I think could be very much incoming) that Leivo, Gaudette and Virtanen will jostle around those middle 6 winger spots. Toss in Ferland as well if he's healthy.

Honestly this guy could help take Horvat to the next level.

@Nuck1991 Just found this steaming hot take of mine from 2016 lol. I have to say though, if Loui has done one thing for this team, it's allowing Bo to elevate his play individually. Green has said Horvat has played better with Loui more than once.

Great post.  If I was Benning I would waive him and send him to Utica for the next two years.  If that $5 million or $4 million or whatever it is is that important to him then he should have to earn it by riding buses every week and actually playing big minutes on the top line in Utica for the next 2 years.  It's really nice weather in Utica in the winter time as well.

If he is actually dumb enough to do this then he fully deserves that extra few million.  Or if he actually has a brain he would do like you said and move back to Sweden to run his restaurants and spend the $61 million he has earned playing in the NHL.

I'd be telling Cull to not play him a single shift and just make him practice  Make sure he sits closest to the bathroom on the bus and make his life as miserable as possible without casing grounds for a grievance.  Let the guys who actually want to be NHLers get the minutes.  If our $6 million floater wants to play another shift for us, he can agree to go to the ECHL or he can terminate his contract.

Loui Eriksson

2020-2021................................Actual Salary $1,000,000 + Bonus $3,000,000 = $4,000,000          Cap Hit $6,000,000

2021-2022................................Actual Salary $3,000,000 + Bonus $3,000,000 = $4,000,000          Cap Hit $6,000,000

If a buyout happened now, after his 2020-2021 $3,000,000 bonus was paid out, the actual money owed to Loui would be...................This may have been why Virtanen went to arbitration....................now there is a second buyout period

If the buyout happened July 15th of 2020.............................$4,000,000 in bonus money + $2,666,667 in actual Salary = $6,666,667

If the buyout happened Aug. 31st of 2020 ...........................$1,000,000 in bonus money + $2,666.667 in actual Salary = $3,666,667

If the buyout happened  July 15th of 2021............................$1,000,000 in bonus money + $2,000,000 in actual Salary = $3,000,000

July 15th of 2020...........................Buyout Caphit.................$5,666,667.......$3,666,667.......$666,667........,$666,667

Aug 31st of 2020...........................Buyout Caphit..................Same

July 15th 2021...............................Buyout Caphit.................XXXXXXXX......$4,000,000......$1,000,000.......XXXXXXX

Just trying to put the numbers up where we can all see them.........................

So, if Loui retires today, he received his $3,000,000 bonus, but would get no monies for the next 2 years, but would be able to sign in either the KHL or SHL for the next 2 seasons, which I am thinking would bring him a $1,000,000 per, so $2,000,000 in the last 2 years of his voided Canuck contract. Or to look at it another way, he would be short approx. $1,666,667 dollars., and would be much closer to his native land.

Or he holds out and gets sent down to Utica, and is away from his family for 2 years? Get's saddle sores from riding the bus, but gets his remaining $5,000,000, which is a difference of $3,000,000 from playing in Europe.

The other 2 ways to get out of the contract is Loan or mutual termination. But with the new Covid reality......is retirement/loan/or mutual termination and signing in Europe even possible? How much is your pride and dignity worth?

As of right now he sadly starts on our 2nd line, maybe third depending on how Virtanen and Gaudette play in training campm that's the scary bit.

If LE is deployed in the top 6 to start the year the Coach needs to be fired...

I think one of the problems with that is Benning is trying to make this an enticing place for veterans to sign here..............as much as I agree that might work, I don't think that meets Benning agenda..............

I think veterans more than anyone know that if you don’t perform you’re not gonna be on the roster.

I think everyone around the league can see Loui isn’t even close to living up to his contract.

It might be more of a problem had LE actually performed close to his contract for the first three years and started to decline the last season. But matter of fact, he did not perform any where close to his contract since day 1 so making his life miserable wouldn't affect other UFA's minds.

Would you want LE as a teammate?  Thought not.  Non-issue.

Also consider his income tax treatment back in Euroland compared to here as well. Bottom line is his kids were all born over here as well. Would his family want to live in Europe? If I had a choice I would not. I cannot see any hope that another team would take LE unless there was serious CAP retention with a bonus player. It suggests a buy-out.

I don't disagree with you, but I would think the kids are fluent in Swedish and probably go back every summer.

Sweden is a beautiful place.............a lot different than here...higher standard of living generally.......also alot more places to vacation at......

The kids would love it there....I know mine would have.

It just occurred to me that my calculations do not include escrow...............which halves any actual money paid to the players right now.

How the hell can this bum look his teammates in the eye knowing that?  Anyone with an ounce of dignity would do the right thing and retire.  He simply is not welcome here.

It's worth a lot of money to LE, millions. I'm sure you wouldn't turn down a couple of million I know I wouldn't. Plus as he states he still he still enjoys playing. It wasn't his fault he was given a $6 mill/season contract. I'd sure like to see him go LT Injury, immediate relief for JB

Why don't you just accept that Benning made a mistake and hopefully learnt something for the future.

Let Green decide wich to play and be fine with it. You wouldn't turn down 5 mill so stop with the hypocracy.
