-Vintage Canuck-
Quote On Monday, Craig Morgan of Arizona Sports confirmed that the Arizona Coyotes have agreed to terms on a one-year deal to bring back center Shane Doan. A former 7th overall pick in the 1995 draft by the then-Winnipeg Jets, Doan will return for his 21st season with the franchise. Doan became a free agent earlier this off-season after his four-year contract expired on July 1st. However, it was believed that first-year GM John Chayka would come to terms with the team’s captain- a cornerstone of the franchise for the last two decades. While terms of the deal were not initially disclosed, Morgan later reported that a source revealed that the deal was worth $2.5 million in base salary with deferred bonuses and other deferred incentives bringing the deal to $5 million. Doan, 39, holds the Coyotes franchise records for games played (1,466), goals (396), points (945) and power-play goals (125). During the 2015-16 regular season, Doan paced the Coyotes with 28 goals and finished third with 47 points in 72 games. Morgan reported that earlier this off-season, Doan helped the Coyotes sign free-agent defenseman Alex Goligoski to a five-year contract after selling him on the franchise. The Coyotes will enter the 2016-17 season seeking to build upon its 78-point, 10th-place finish in the Western Conference during the 2015-16 regular season. http://thehockeywriters.com/arizona-coyotes-re-sign-shane-doan-to-one-year-deal-report/

Phil_314
Too bad, wanted him to consider signing here. Their team looks very solid now with Shane back in the mix, with Domi - Hanzal - Duclair as the top line, solid veterans like McGinn, Vermette, Goligoski and Ekman-Larsson alongside and many talented kids (Dvorak, Strome if he convinces the team to not send him back to Erie for another season, Rieder, Murphy) and solid, gritty soldiers in Martinook, Ryan White, etc. If Mike Smith could put together a healthy season (big if for him) or if they could upgrade in goal they could be poised to compete with all their talent. Slegr
That is some serious longevity for the type of hockey player that he is. 39 years old with his gritty play is a true accomplishment. Jets/Coyotes have been lucky with him.
Mackcanuck
TOR radio announcer goes off on the Doan signing in ARZ! This guy is so bad, he makes Pratt seem acceptable. http://arizonasports.com/story/737498/canadian-radio-host-attacks-shane-doan-does-loyalty-not-translate-north-of-the-border/ Dean Blundell, a host on Sportsnet 590 The Fan, talked about the signing Tuesday morning. “I just read a couple of minutes ago that Shane Doan has re-upped with the (Arizona) Coyotes. I don’t really care whatsoever. But this was running through my mind when I read it this morning prior to going on the air. Have you ever in your life seen a guy in any professional sport that likes losing as much as Shane Doan?,” Blundell said. “I don’t know that there’s another man who’s been as good as he’s been in his sport that’s been not just OK with sucking, but looked forward to it, preferred it, took pay cuts to do it and is staying and finishing his career in a place where he knows he can’t win. David West in the NBA, who has gone from the Spurs’ veteran minimum to the Warriors’ minimum — David West looks like a genius compared to Shane Doan. I don’t get it whatsoever.” “This is why they’ve sucked as long as they’ve sucked,” Blundell continued. “They’ve got a guy who loves sucking. He looks forward to it — every season. I read this the other day. Shane Doan said ‘I’m not going anywhere.” And I said ‘no kidding, because you love to suck and that’s the center of the suck universe when it comes to the NHL.’ “He has no clue. He has no desire to win. I have never in my life seen anything like it.”
