KKnight
What a crazy friggen day!! Who do you think came out on top today?? Me personally (Wins) I Love what Tampa has done. That management group has done an outstanding job adding and keeping talent. Van- I do like what we have done so far, Benning has done a great job this offseason. I still think this group could use another winger to either play with Bo or on the fourth line. Obviously with some edge to his game. Buffalo- Okposo was the right signing for that team. Still think they need an upgrade on D though. I think they are a playoff team next year. I think the leafs picking up Martin was smart. Not a huge pick up, but low cost and will help that teams grit. Sharks did good. Boedker and an underrated Schlemko. Detroit. Had a marginal win - Nielsen will do great there. Vanek - Low risk, high reward. Ott - Not a fan. (Losers) Boston - WTH is Sweeney doing, giving Backes that contract?? That team is going to suck for a long time in a couple years. Edmonton - Lucic is a good player and all, but like Button said what D is going to get thse guys the puck?? Rangers - That team is going to go in a tail spin really quickly. They did nothing, but Grabner and Gerbe?? Islanders - Meh!!
Kurt Nirvanagut
The biggest loser on the opening day of free agency was the NBA, hands down. That joke of a league is handing out 20-30 million per year deals to above-average players. Pathetic.

VegasCanuck
I like the Eriksson signing. I have a feeling the next step will be a trade with a team that is hard against the cap.
WHL rocks
Chicago with 1 year Campbell deal big win MTL 1 year Radulov deal big win EDM Lucic biggest win. can be moved after 5 years Canucks Eriksson big win. can be moved after 4 years Okposo in BUF is a great pick up, won't need to be moved, he'll produce for duration of contract. I would have loved it if JB got both Okposo and Eriksson. You get both those guys and you make playoffs and expect to win the 1st round. Ladd, Backes both terrible deals. kloubek
Biggest winners: The UFAs. The contracts handed out today tended to be long in term, and high in price. My thoughts on a few of the moves: Lucic will fit in well with the Oilers. They needed physicality on that team, and Lucic can produce reasonable points as well. They did, however, lose heavily on the Hall trade, and still need to upgrade their defense if they hope to complete the moves required to make them competitive. I do believe though, that they will be regretting the Lucic acquisition in a few years. Tampa: Retained Stamkos, and locked up Hedman at a reasonable price. They should be good for another run next season. Flames: Brower should fit in well with that group, and Elliot is a much needed talent in goal. They did, in my opinion, lose a good asset in Colburne for nothing. I realize why they wanted to avoid arbitration, but losing a young, big guy like that for nothing would really upset me as a fan. Losers: Islanders. They lost far more than they gained. St. Louis: Lost some hard-nosed physicality, and are a lesser team now.

The NBA isn't anywhere close to the level of the NFL and now Mike Conley (who advanced stats will show is a sub top 20 player at his position) now makes three times as much money as Tom Brady. Brandon Guhle looks ready to join and maybe knock Cody Franson out of a spot. Franson played his best year last year. that Jake McCabe kid is something else plus they have a top dman in ristolainen, added with bogosian and as well as kulikov from Florida and josh gorges they have some nice options. I think they need one or two more to be a cup contender but their d is just young, not bad.
canucks3322
I'd say Oilers since signing Lucic to a 7 year deal will haunt them in the future, its more of a short term gain and long term lost; also islander giving Ladd a 7 year deal... Winners would Blackhawks, Detroit, and canucks.
kenhodgejr
We won today. Benning has done an amazing job restocking the cupboards and finding an elite forward who can help our team with scoring plus helping with the 1st line transition when the Sedins retire. He is a leader and professional on and off the ice. It cost Boston a 2nd pick in Tyler Seguin to get this guy and we got him for nothing but $$$$$ and term which we had extra of. The AHL guys we acquired have had NHL experience and will make Utica a force next year with Demko in net. When guys get injured on the Canucks we will have a lot of options to choose from and there will be a lot of internal competition for spots. I have a feeling Utica will be a contender next year. We now have balanced lines and depth in the system until the Sedins retire. Then we will be facing new challenges.
