[Signing] Panthers sign Jason Demers

Recommended Posts

Panthers making the necessary changes to ensure they remain competitive. While they obviously had a good defensive defenseman in Gudbranson and an "ok", though aging Campbell, replacing them with Yandle and Demers, plus a full time Matheson will ensure they are no worse for wear.

Took less to play in Florida. The Panthers defense now looks something like

Yandle-Ekblad

Petrovic-Demers

Matheson-Pysyk

Kampfer

McCoshen probably starts in the AHL. That's not a bad looking group. Well done Florida.

Don't worry guys, Edmonton will sign Roman Polak for toughness.

Good move by the Panthers. I was wondering what they were planning on doing after giving up Gudbranson, Kulikov, and Campbell. It's a different look atleast and let's wait and see if they are a better group than this past season.

Didn't realize his underlying 'analytics ' were that good!

They were pretty good....in Dallas.

Will be interesting to see in Florida.  At least they brought in someone to handle some harder minutes.

Demers is good, but they lose ALOT of sandpaper and leadership in Gudbranson.  We"ll see if it was the right move or not.

The good news is the Oilers never got him, so there defence is still weak.  I had a feeling Demers wouldn't sign in Edmonton because they would have had to expose him in the expansion draft.  Edmonton has to protect Sekers, Larsson and Klefbom, so any signing they make will either have to be waiver exempt or on a short term deal.  In fact they STILL have to expose Reinhart, who they traded a 1st and 2nd for and is basically a #5 D for them.  Just poor asset management by Chiarelli.
