(Discussion) Trading Tanev or Edler

Recommended Posts

What could we get for Tanev?

Tanev+Baertschi for Hall? Lol

What about Edler?

Larkin-Jost-Drasitl?

What's our defense look like without them?

Hutton Gudbranson

Tryamkin Larsen

Pedan Sbisa

(Juolevi, Subban, Stecher, Biega)

What UFAs could we sign to replace 1 or both of Edler or Tanev?

I like Schenn, he would be worth the gamble. He looked great in Toronto but his style didn't fit in the Flyers system. His age fits JBs plan.

I'm not for trading both but trading 1 would make a lot of sense. Tanev would for sure score the bigger haul, but I would rather trade Edler and have Schenn replace him until Juolevi is ready. The Wings were very high on Edler a couple years back so maybe they still are? Could we do a Edler+2nd for Larkin from Detroit or a straight up swap Edler for Jost?

Defenceman value is through the roof right now and selling high on Edler or Tanev could be the best thing for this rebuild. What do you guys think? Should we sell high?

Finally having an NHL level defense that looks to be improving year to year now as our younger D improve, I'd say keeping that intact is more important to this team than any return Edler or Tanman could garner us.

I find this whole thread crazy! We have been complaining for years our defence sucks. Then, when we get something resembaling an decent D core.  NOW , lets trade them.  Mind boggling, Assests. blah blah blah. Trade high.. blah blah. We still need to field a team and trading away mediocre assets , will not help us move forward. I for one, is glad JB is in control and not CDC.

I don't want to trade either of them!  We need versatility, strength and depth on D and now that we have it, you want to trade it away?  Tanev is a valuable piece of the defensive puzzle and I think that Edler can and will have a bounce-back year, now that we have Gudbranson and Tryamkin to take care of the physical side of things.  No reason to rush Juolevi, bring him in when he is ready.  There are always injuries on D and we need capable guys to fill in.  Good defense is what wins games and personally I'm sick of losing.  GCG!

Tanev must be one of the most under-rated players here in CDC ever. On a terrible team last year, he finished only -8 despite taking over as our number 1 D-man for a huge part of the season without having another reliable first line partner. The guy got invited to play for Team Canada and excelled and was instrumental in the team winning Gold. Not only that, he's a right-handed D-man - which is so coveted in the NHL right now. I don't think I'm going out on a limb by saying that in today's market, Tanev is easily worth at least a young, first-line forward.

One of the reasons our defense has sucked for the last two years is because we do have edler we can improve the d just by moving him the talk of moving tanev is just not smart at all

Any chance we can trade Edler to Colorado for Tyson Barrie's rfa rights? Now Barrie isn't signed yet and it'd be just for his rights. I'd feel comfortable trading for his rights as we could match anything realistic and even if somebody went nuts on an offer we'd get a ton of high picks back.

I can agree with you that he's underrated but I don't think he's worth a young, 1st line forward at all. The reason I say that is because other than his defensive skills, he doesn't contribute much else. Doesn't have a physical presence or stand out offensively. That's what seperates the good defenseman from the great ones. If the right trade comes along to acquire a top 6 forward or 40+ point d-man i'm all for it.

If we're going to move anyone it should be Edler. The return might not be as great but frees up cap and in return try to get prospect and a high pick for next year. With expansion draft coming might be the best option to unload protection needs.

Edler is worth a Landeskog and a 1st from Colorado.

Lol, I think Landeskog and 2 firsts.

Anyhow, I would prefer to trade Edler over Tanev as I think Tanev would actually be a great partner to help Tryamkin.

Any trade should involve a dman coming back our way to keep our defensive depth, but for more of a dman that compliments our team needs.

I would trade either of them for an offensive dman that can help us on the PP though, as we have enough team defense and good goaltending to afford that swap of styles,  to help our forwards get the puck faster and be a threat from the point.

Right now our line-up looks like it could stifle any team, but still have trouble transitioning and scoring. Lots of 1 goal games and not many where we or they get blown out. Those games are hard 60 minute battles that IMO lead to more injuries and a drop off by the end of the season...if you can make it into the playoffs though healthy, then you are more battle tested mentally for the playoff grind.

But Larsson got a Hall, no?
