[Signing] Leafs sign Roman Polak

Recommended Posts

He got two 2nds at the deadline. Also there was a story that Lou promised him that he would get traded to a Cup contender and followed through by trading him to the Sharks. Polak was grateful for a chance at a Cup. Wouldn't be surprised if this contract comes with the same promise.

Interesting, did not know that!

Leafs trade Polak at the deadline for two 2nd round picks, re-sign him. The Canucks in the same position keep Hamhuis and don't re-sign him.

Leafs fans really like Polak, and said he was solid for them. I think he is welcomed back by their fan base.

As awful as the Leafs previous regimes have been, the new management group is really doing everything right. Vancouver in comparison has done a very awful job at rebuilding.

Oh yeah? Two years into the "rebuild/retool" they are already doing an awful job? Just looking at our prospect pool 2-3 years ago I'd say they're doing a pretty fine job. Especially if you factor in we at least made the playoffs the first year of the retool, rebuild re-whatever.

The leafs signed Winnik and traded him for a 3rd. They did it again last year.

Then they traded Polak and Spaling for a two 2nds and signed him again.

That's 4 free draft picks. And they'll probably trade Polak again at the deadline.

Just like Winnik, they are using him as a deadline asset for the second time. Winnik and Polak suprisingly got 2nds cuz teams need these types at the deadline. Its smart, but such a weasel thing to do.

Speaking of weasel's, I wonder if hiring/drafting Jimmy Vesey's family members into the organization will work. If not T.O, or Boston, I really hope he comes here! The one position we need and are trying to acquire is a middle six LW. Buffalo gave up a 3rd for his rights. I heard something about him not being able to sign til August 15th I think? If true, do they own him til then, or is he UFA as of yesterday? Someone who knows, could you enlighten me please?

Polak, Martin, I think they are ready to make a big splash now.  Their next UFA signing...

Mason Raymond...

Or Santorelli?

Im suprised Mattias got the same as Joe Colborne, and Grabner not much less either

so why don't the canucks do that

We plan on making the playoffs. Our lineup is full of guys we hope will be here beyond next season. Leafs have the luxury of one more season of signing one year deals on guys who fill in the final roster spots.
