I've seen Roger waters in 07 and 2012/13 for the wall tour, u2 in 05, 09, the hip and 5440 a few years ago at the commodore(?) , Jon Anderson at the vogue a few years ago and Florence and the machine a few years ago. I was at the music festival last month at Stanley park-ish, and saw the dead ghosts and tycho and a few other bands Ive heard for the first time. I don't go to very many shows, but when I do I make them count :3

Always wanted to but none of my friends are into the music I like and I can't find it in me to go alone.

Pemberton will be my first fest with a couple buddies and I'll probably ditch em for a few acts like Pearl Jam and Mastodon.

It's really not that bad... going alone to stuff.. movies, concerts, canucks games.  Try it once and then you'll see.

as expected, I don't know most of those on your list, GJ. cohen and tool, but that's it.

going alone isn't bad. I've been to a few concerts alone because its difficult to get people to fork over money to head into vancouver. I've actually met a handful of decent people just hanging around waiting for it to start, and i've not even close to being extroverted

Edgefest at UBC is the only "festival" I've gone to. It was mostly to see The Tea Party.

I've seen The Rolling Stones

The Police 2006

Supertramp (My first concert in 1982)

Pink Floyd

Hoodoo Gurus

Social Distortion

Queensryche

The Kinks (So disappointing live)

Heart

Marillion

Diana Krall (One of the few Jazz acts I've seen)

Robert Plant

Lots of small acts at the Commodore Ballroom (Love that place).

I miss venues like The Starfish Room.

I've seen lots of local bands and Canadian Bands that have come and gone.

I lived in the West Aussie capital Perth for a dozen years. And feel guilty for never picking up the opportunity.

How was this show?

I definitely had an amazing night. Had to book a hotel in vancouver, and they upgraded the room to a penthouse suite with a balcony/city view for no extra charge. Concert was the Lonerism tour (2013), which is an all-time top 10 album for me. I was up at the front for most of it, right beside Kevin's peddle board. Despite being so close it SOUNDED AMAAAAZING, dude. I cannot believe how good these guys are together. You def need to see them at some point. Some good s--t in the water in Australia these days. The recent setlists aren't as great for me because they're so Currents-heavy, but I'd still go see them again if given the chance. I just prefer the more psychedelic jam stuff.

So naturally, the Highlight for me was probably Half Full Glass of Wine, which is stretched out to 8 mins because of the jam session in the middle, which stirred everyone into a total frenzy.

instead of copying the vancouver show version, check out their Reading performance of that song if you haven't seen how they do it live. it's something else.

way to many to list but this one was pretty memorable...smoked a doobie with the lead singer of Fishbone and then saw Tool on a little side stage with about 20 other people...really intimate affair.

damn, the real highlight here, for me, is Dinosaur Jr.

in 1993 they released 'Where You Been?' - for my money, one of the best albums of the 90s. Mascis is such a great guitarist. back when i finally got a guitar, i couldn't decide if i wanted to go the Sonic Youth (Jaguar) route, or the Dino Jr (jazzmaster) route. I chose the jag, but still, Mascis is in my top 5 players for sure.

Music is a blessing. I'm strangely addicted to CDC and the Canucks. Now I live in Australia. Its my attachment to home. But I have seen 10 or 20 concerts for every NHL game I have gone to see? And there is no better value than festivals!

A hockey / music experience? I had Randy Bachman as a customer in White Rock. He grew up not far from where I did in Winnipeg. He was doing a 1st intermission show & gifted me courtesy tickets front row to see the last (original) Jets game in Vancouver. Almo versus Teemu the Finnish Flash > Takin Care of Business!

As a lil' kid, my mom god love her, dragged me kicking and screaming to the Winnipeg Folk Festivals promoted by her friend Mitch Podolok. Buffy St Marie, the "Irish" Rovers. My brain tells me I saw BB King?? Valdy, Murray McLauchlan, Bruce Cockburn. I was hooked.

In a mid life crisis I ran a CD store.  Free tickets to see Ben Harper, The John Butler Trio (speaking ^^ of West Aussie boys, although this was Edmonton), Bif Naked, V Islands Diana Krall. Met Chad Kroeger. In an early life cheap job I mopped floors at a similar record store. Got perks in the form of tickets though. Took my cool Auntie to see Split Enz, then my dad to see the same brothers two years later; Crowded House. Midnight Oil, Jeff Beck, the late Joe Cocker at Red River College, early GNR. In uni I hung out at the "Osborne Zoo" which had live acts downstairs every Friday night. Streetheart more times than I could count. It might have been twice. We were usually that sober. Bought Eric Clapton tickets with my first credit card purchase

Harlequin & QCK plaid school dances, "sock hops" at John Henderson Junior High in East Kildonan. The music bug hit hard!

The first concert I personally bought tickets to? Went to see Cheap Trick. Then soon April Wine, AC DC with Brian Johnson before I finished middle school. Who would let their 14 year old these days, catch a bus downtown with their buddies to see such a show?Where they light lighters (& joints) as soon as the lights went out. Embarrassed now I wore my Sunglasses to see Corey Hart. A coming of age experience soon after > my cousins ID was used to sneak in. To see Darby Mills & Brian Too Loud McLeod play at a beer hall show: The Headpins. I had a front row table and she wore the tightest skin tight latex CT pants. ::D   ZZ Top, John Cougar (before he re-married his real name Mellancamp). I took my younger brother to see Judas Priest, Elton, Stevie Wonder. The original Synchronicity tour of the Police was magic went the 1984 tour of Van Halen all on or about the time I finished school.

Barn 22! Off the beaten path & 50 Km off the highway halfway between Regina & Winnipeg in rural Saskatchewan. A promoter talked acts into breaking up the trip with a show. Yes in a live barn! Acts would play Friday in the Peg, Sat night all night at the barn then hit the Queen City. We'd pack my cousins in my car boot & cases of beer. Alfie Zappacosta, Nazareth, The Northern Pikes, Blue Rodeo, Harlequin.

The Australian Festival Circuit? I moved here in 2006.

I have spent the last ten years tracking back and forth to Byron Bay and Freemantle on opposite coasts of Oz. For some of the best festivals known to man. Over ten years: Blind Boys of Alabama, The Staples Sisters, Ray Davies (of the Kinks @Ghostsof1915 was awesome, Neil Diamond, Robert frickin Plant (!), Steve Earle, JBT Group again, Elvis Costello, Crowded House, great act Boy N Bear, Matt Corby, Paul Simon, Wolfmother, John Foggerty, Sinead O'Connor, Perth Band Eskimo Joe, Ozzie legend Paul Kelly, Funkmaster George Clinton, Jimmy Cliff, Keb Mo, Dave Mathews Band, The Doooooobie Brothers, Michael Franti (v good!), John Mayer, The Cranberries, Neil Young, Newton Faulkner (best ever one man band, has some big hits) Eric Burdon & the Animals, Bob Dylon, yes BOB DYLAN, The Cat Empire, The Black Keys (hoot hoot), Buddy Guy, Miss American Pie Don MacLean, Gotye, Missy Higgins, Grace Jones. Bonnie Rait, Jason Mraz, Rufus Wainright.

Steve Miller Band and Carlos Santana played back to back at the Perth Blues N Roots festival in 2014. I watched Robert Plant the day before FFS? Festivals are awesome. Steve told a story.  He had not played with Carlos since the world famous Montery International Rock Festival in 1967.

Best unknown festival act?  Jake Bugg @ same festival. A pommy who does country blues Johnny Cash style. With an Indie Rock voice. I think he's still just 23 & had a new cd last month.  I'm going in town to Melbourne to see him next week.

The Tragically Hip at Gimli Manitoba. Frack, 1987? (I don't remember those years)?

Bryan Adams at Osoyoo's. Steve Miller Band again was opening act.  8 hour show, 4 day party in the Peach Orchard across the road from the stadium! Give or take 92... Sooo many girls, tricks, bottles. Nothing better than a rock show camp out!

ACDC in 2010 came home to Perth for the first time in 20 years in 2010. 30 years from my first show. I think the whole downtown was shut down.  Every parking lot became a tail gaiting party starting almost the night before. I think girls were allergic to keeping their T shirts on?

All nighters at Barn 22! (I'm not shattin, google it)  Think it still does gigs?

I'm sure I'm missing so many shows?  I'm going to the Tamworth Country Music Festival in Northern New South Wales next January.  Campin out. Anyone want to come?

I have played in The Taste of Chaos tour.

I played in one year of the Warped Tour.

Also got the chance to do an awesome fill in job for a great punk band at the Punk

Rock Bowling festival in Las Vegas a couple years ago.

As far as tours/festivals I've been to, that would take too long.

When it is part of your job to go to and play shows, it's hard to keep track of them all.

A couple of the best shows I've seems recently would be

At The Drive In

Tool

Refused

The Beach Boys was a blast.

Geez.  I don't know.  I get sent to watch shows all over.  So hard to choose.

PRB in Vegas I definitely suggest going too.   Even if you aren't a big punk rock fan, it's just such a crazy party.   It is like all of Freemont street gets taken over by Mohawks and denim vests.

The punk rock crowd is always so damn friendly and positive too.  What a blast!

Been to so many but some of my favs would be ...

The Grateful Dead (a bunch of times as a teenager in the 90s before Jerry Garcia died)
Bob Dylan (didn't understand a single word and it was fantastic)
PJ Harvey
Nick Cave

Page and Plant

SRV (I was in high school and this one was 1 month before he died)
The Cure
REM (was never a fan but it was fun enough to include it here)
The Roots
Dick Dale (because I stood right in the front center and could have touched him if I was more of a weirdo)

And every other genre listed in the poll (though you forgot reggae). Too many seedy blues bars and jazz clubs to count.

I'll add one of my strangest and most fun musical experiences which was a Spanish gypsy flamenco group that I ended up playing with in a bar in Budapest for a week while stuck in a snowstorm. (sounds Tarantino-esque but there was no shootout) The quick guitar and rapid handclapping and the spinning dancing was all so amazing right up close in person. So much fun. (plus they told me every gypsy street trick in the book to watch out for from then on anywhere in Europe)

Also my stupidest, which was I once hung out with Nina Persson thinking she was just another beautiful Swedish girl not realizing she was actually the singer for The Cardigans, haha. Ugh ...

Canuck Surfer, one of my favourite current Aussie bands is Nun. Do you know them? I've been listening to their album a lot over the last two years because they're hilariously great and I love it. If I was a big record label guy I'd sign them up in a heartbeat:
