danno1864
What an incredibly frustrating experience it was to watch the Canucks last year! Canucks left an absurd amount of points on the table, failing to close out teams by holding onto leads - going to overtime and then losing. With a rookie-laden lineup Canucks were one of the league leaders in overtime -13!. Winning just half of these would have made them a playoff team. I think the Canucks could be one of the surprise rebound teams this year with a bolstered lineup.
-Vintage Canuck-
There were a lot of close one-goal games last season, and at other times, the Canucks couldn't build on their lead and get an insurance goal, which in some games, resulted in an overtime loss. Hopefully, this year is different.

One day we may look back, thanking a frustrating season for landing our best D-man. Same with the Torts yr for Virtanen. If he & Olli push through their respective ceilings, we'll be thanking 2014 & '16.
Dral
Why blow up the team and tank when we can just let our guys all get injured for 1 year and grab a stud
BCNeil
The Canucks team last year had one of the worst records in the history of the league, giving up points when leading going into the 3rd.
Derp...
I'm expecting us to field a 92-96 point team next year barring any ridiculous injuries to key people.
SaintPatrick33
Remember the Torts year we were horrid in shootouts, then went out and got Miller and Verbby, two of the best at shootouts, and the next year we were a 100 point playoff team. The league then switches to a 3 on 3 format and we were suddenly hooped. Willie would never play the speed guys, just kept throwing the Sedins out there, who are generally not known for their open ice skating ability! Sutter, Horvat, Bear, Virtanen, Erickson, Hansen should all be playing our OT sessions.
luckylager
I'd say it was the 3rd period that killed us last year, partially due to injuries, partially WD's questionable player usage and shortened bench.... Hopefully we weren't the only ones that learned from those blown 3rds

Hopefully, this year is different. What I saw last year was that the other team turned on the jets in the last period, and that's why the Canucks lost - it really had to do less with the Canucks. The Canucks were so dominated; I wished I kept close track, but the number of quality shots in the third period was so one-sided. In fact, in the playoffs, I noticed that those other teams managed to find an even higher gear, and this was what convinced me that unless we get a dominant offensive player like Stamkos, we're not going to win the Cup. So I definitely think the operative word is 'hopefully'.
Lastresort318
I believe that we will rebound slightly. We are not as bad as we did last year. Injuries played a big part along with younger guys still learning the game at the pro level. One thing I personally noticed is that Willie didn't seem to trust a lot of the players until later on in the season. Once he started to trust them, we got better. The team also stopped sitting back as much when we got the lead the deeper we went into the year. Will we be a playoff team? Probably not. Will we rebound and contend for a spot? I believe so. If I had to guess for when we would be a playoff team, I would give it two years counting this upcoming season.
Rocky Balboa
We'll be battling for a wlidcard spot if the team stays healthy. If we get hit with injuries again (especially if Erikkson goes down), then we're fudged.

Injury watch. top 6 F top 4 D Sedin Sedin Eriksson Horvat Sutter Hansen Edler Tanev Hutton Gudbranson If they miss less than 100 games between them we can easily contend for a playoff spot. If they miss 300+ games between them the season is pretty much a loss. Tank it.

No, half would not have made a difference, remember it is Wild Card, conference, the Nucks would have needed ALL 13 points to make the show by 1 point, they would have had to have 44 wins. By division, they would have needed 23 more points to tie the Sharks for third in the division. The 13 OT's is a credit to the defence.

This team will never be a tears own as long as the Sedins are here and with our offseason additions I like our chances of making the playoffs next year

Darius
Last year they were around 6 wins out of a playoff spot. I think one thing the professional commentators on radio and TV are underestimating is the impact that injuries had on the team. They were without their #2 center, 3 out of 6 d men, for extended durations last year. Not only that Hank - arguably their top player - was playing hurt. With a healthy lineup + changes made they should be in position to challenge for 8th.

There were a lot if injuries and when you're a team on the cusp with all the others trying to get in that's enough to knock you out of contention. I felt the Sutter injury was HUGE and that in itself was almost enough to make them miss out seeing that he looks like he can really score, is good on the faceoffs and does all the little things well. You add in a better overall team physical presense, rock solid goaltending, very good penalty kill, better PP with Sutter, Eriksson and possible threat Larsen, Sutters 20 goals all around great hockey abilities, a physical force Gudbranson who'll help keep a lot of pucks out of the net, add in 25'ish goals from Eriksson, the emergence of Hansen and then factor in all the players who got much needed development like Markstrom, Baertchi, Horvat, Virtanen, Hutton and Tryamkin. Add to that I think Benning quietly really improved the depth and there'll be quite a few players who will be able to be inserted in the lineup and add some ability and hold their own. Based on these factors and more I'm thinking this team is going to really surprise and actually make the playoffs fairly easily.
