cuporbust
K, this is a Cut and paste Job here from ol CUPORBUST but I really enjoyed this blog from our newest Canuck. This guy is a gem. Character wise , we hit the jackpot IMO. Honest as JB this kid. If he is half as good on the ice as he is off , we are in good shape. Enjoy Hi! I’m Olli Juolevi and the Canucks guys asked me to keep a blog during development camp, so here it is. I’m still working on my English, so I apologize if it’s not always great! We arrived at Shawnigan Lake School today and I haven’t had much time to explore, but what I’ve seen has been amazing. We are in a big house just the players and I’m roommates with Guillaume Brisebois, he’s a really nice guy, I like all the guys here. No one speaks Finnish, I’m the only Finnish prospect here, so I’ve been hanging out with the guys I know from the OHL because they speak English. The French players are speaking French all the time and I don’t stand a chance there! Today is our third day of camp, which began Friday in Vancouver. The first day was a lot of testing and time spent in the gym, then the second day was some classes on nutrition, media and social media, then some team building. I’ll never look at a tennis ball the same again! In four teams of eight guys, we lined up in four lines in the Canucks dressing room and you had to pass the tennis ball from guy to guy without using your hands, so it was neck to neck and it was funny. I’ve never seen that before, it makes you laugh and gets you closer with the guys. Our team finished second! We’ve had some free time at night and we went to the Canadians baseball game Friday, then just walked around Vancouver Saturday night. It was cool to see the floatplanes landing on the water; Vancouver is a very beautiful city. I’ve been here once, earlier this year, when I played in the top prospects game, but it wasn’t as nice outside then as it is now. Today was a travel day, we took the bus to the ferry, then bused to the Shawnigan Lake and then hit the ice for testing. I’m happy with how I did, especially since I haven’t done much since the Mem Cup. I showed well, which was nice because the Canucks coaches and management were here watching. It’s great they are so interested in us and they could come because I’m sure they’re busy with free agents and all that stuff. Someone asked me the other day about camp and what my goal for camp is and that’s easy: getting better. I need to get stronger and faster and I’m here to learn how to do that. That’s what you have to do when you’re a hockey player. We all want to be better players next season. I don’t think of myself as being a big first round pick or whatever, I just want to get better and better. Everyone here has a chance to be a future Canucks player and it’s exciting to see. We’ll push each other and help each other all week. Thank you for reading, I hope it was okay! I’ll try to do a few blogs during camp, as long as I have enough to talk about. If you have any questions, let me know, it will give me something to write about! Olli
Harvey Spector
That's awesome, thanks for sharing. He looks motivated and ready to put in the time and work necessary to get bigger and stronger. He looks like a beauty. I love this pick. He looks to take over the torch from Jyrki Lumme and Sami Salo. He may become better than both of them. I said this in another thread, I think Olli Juolevi has a chance to become the best defenceman the Canucks have ever had. I hope we see him in a Canucks uniform next year... Mathew Barzal
Seems to have a good head on his shoulders, how many french speaking prospects do we have?
Toews
Really excited to see Juolevi in a Canucks jersey during the prospects tournament and training camp. I watched a ton of Knights games last year so I am familiar to what he brings to the table. I have even more reason to watch Knights games this year now that I know one of our own is on the team. This part right there is the right attitude to have! I'm extremely excited to have Juolevi in the system. Olli will make a great Canuck someday. ItsMillerTime
He is wearing shinks old number 48. I still cry because of that trade.

There are ten QMJHL players at camp this year (but six of them are invites). Our four QMJHL prospects are Brisebois, Neill, Laplante, and Zhukenov. The first three can probably speak French fluently, while Zhukenov's French probably isn't any better than his English. The six QMJHL invites are Aube, Galipeau, Sweeney, Carcone, D'Aoust, and Moynihan. I'd expect most, if not all of them, speak French pretty well or fluently. So that's probably nine guys who can speak French, several of whom are also very likely French first language/native speakers. It's probably the biggest French-speaking contingent we've ever had at one of these camps so it makes sense Olli would notice it and comment on all the QMJHL guys speaking French to each other. Well, I've read other prospect blogs from the Canucks over the years, and his grammar is better than many of those ones. So yeah, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. Why so cynical? But it is quite possible that someone did edit blog before it went out. But I think the point is that editors can fix simple typos, but they don't change the basic flow or logical structure, which are very good in Juolevi's blog. So I would say that he his reputation for being smart (both on and off the ice) is consistent with his blog. I can see a lot of people starting to convince themselves that getting Juolevi instead of Dubois was a good outcome. I would not go that far yet, but Juolevi does seem like a great prospect. The blog even said they took time for "Social media"..... Not saying his words were not his words but ya, unfortunately it's influence is huge now. I'm not being oblivious, based on the information contained within Oli's blog, he does have a good grasp of the English language. You are assuming that someone else is editing & changing what's written in the blog without any evidence of that being true. Unless you know something you're not telling? As I said, I've read quite a few of these blogs before, and there's a distinct style to each blog. Some demonstrate better writing skills than others. Oli's blog is one of the better ones. Fun fact, almost 3/4 of Finnish folk speak English. Perhaps he's more fluid than you think.
Hairy Kneel
I wanted Tkatchuk but this kid sounds level headed and has the right mindset for a rookie. I'm looking forward to seeing more of him.
Nuxfanabroad
Already it's plain that Olli is anglin' to have the Frenchies dealt away. Kid's got confidence, but becoming the boss on the 1st day IS controversial. I've heard talk(scuttlebutt) after that he's gonna try to get all team Swedes dealt off. Kid's got moxie, but this is an obstinate approach, & he might have to settle for an 'A', not the 'C' he claims he needs. Stay tuned, I'll round up more breaking info...
