Why hasn't this guy been signed yet?  He is a bona-fide #4 NHL defensive defenseman who hits hard, punishes guys infront of the net and makes a good first pass.  At 6' 2" 225 he would add MORE size to our back end and let guys like Hutton or even Tanev take more risks.  Sure he has a little Salo in him (plays from the infirmary a bit) but when he's in the line-up the whole team feels the ripple.  At 31 he surely has some good years left in him and could even score a few more goals for us.

If Benning is serious about improving D - like he put out there when he passed on some pretty good forwards this draft, this would go a long way into showing that.  Thoughts anyone?

I don't see where Quincy would really fit?  Sbisa is already on the outside looking in on our lineup, another veteran D-man would take a valuable spot, and command several million.  At 6' 2 he would be one of our smaller defensemen :D

Ummm..you should look at the roster.  Try is 3lbs heavier then him, he would be our second heaviest guy.  We have one of he smallest defenses in the league, improved definitely with Guud coming on board.   And who is more valuable them him? Edler, Tanev, Hutton, Guud ...the rest sorry - you rate them too high.

Edler 6' 3

Tramkin 6' 7

Pedan 6' 5

Hutton 6' 2

Tanev 6' 2

Gudbranson 6' 5

Sibsa 6' 2

What is small about that defence core?  Flame on brotha..

LOL noticed how you didn't include their weights.  Yes our defense is getting bigger, but again he would add size as a lot of these guys at or under 200lbs (ie bean poles).  Look it up.  Anyhow, given the lame response to this post so far, I gather not enough eyes looking past this team (he instantly would improve our still lackluster D, at  least until Olli pans out) but I know how the CDC over rates our players (and prospects).  Surprised not one response that thinks this might work for our team at this stage.  BTW 6' 3" is the average size NHLer (according to the THN).

Face it,  if he was a legit top 4 guy as you claim,  there'd be zero chance he'd still be UFA right now.

Top 4 guys are worth their weight in gold and at least half the league is looking for them - yet he remains unsigned.

Your probably right.  I like this guy, he reminds me a little of Dave Babych, very strong, clears the net like nobody's business and makes a clean first pass out.   I think his injuries may be part of why he is still out there, plus who knows what type of money he wants or where he will be willing to play.  Detroit didn't re-sign him which makes one wonder.  Watching him play I like this guy, he doesn't stand out but does his job well and hits like a tank.  Nothing wrong with that, and it wouldn't hurt our depth either.
