[Proposal] My ideal remaining moves

Recommended Posts

Trade Sbisa for conditional pick.

Sign Russell,Pirri and Hudler.

Sedin-Sedin-Eriksson

Hudler-Sutter-Hansen

Baertschi-Horvat-Pirri

Burrows-Granlund-Dorsett

Etem

Virtanen starts year in Utica.

Edler-Tanev

Hutton-Gudbrandson

Tryamkin-Russell

Larsen

I think this team could challenge for a playoff spot.

I don't want to trade for Kane.

would love landeskog but IMO that would be way to pricey.

Thoughts?

If Hudler can be had at a reasonable salary, he would be a solid addition to whatever goals Benning is trying to achieve by signing Eriksson.

I would actually call the Canucks a playoff team with the lineup you posted.

(probably a team that folds in the playoffs - Eriksson and Hudler aren't exactly Trevor Linden in the big games - but a team that makes it to the tournament).

Hudler produces decent numbers, but he isn't a heart and soul grit guy, and playing someone like the Kings, I think he would be neutralized.  I think that money would be better spent elsewhere.

I know you don't post a lot, OP, but don't forget to add tags to the title of your posts in this sub-forum (a number of sub-forums require them):

As far as the deals, if Benning and Co. were ok with moving Sbisa for as little as a conditional pick, they would have done so and brought back Hamhuis. Russell isn't the answer here and would likely be after more in term and money than we'd want to give.

I probably wouldn't sign two more UFA forwards either, which would completely rule out the chances of Virtanen, Rodin (who has an out clause if he isn't in the NHL), Gaunce and even Grenier (who's waiver eligible) from making the team no matter how well they perform in camp.

Exactly how does Hudler fit the goal of adding size/grit that JB has repeatedly said he was after?

How does Eriksson?

By the Eriksson plan, I was referring to shooting to squeeze into the playoffs in the next few years.

Ericsson fits the top line scorer JB has repeatedly said he was after.

Now they need a winger with a heavy game who can pop a goal occasionally - that's not Hudler imo.

Just a shot in the dark but I wonder if moving Subban to wing would help out 2 problems. High energy and good skater who I'm sure would definitely compete every night and would move out some of the log jam in D right now. Before you all jump on me remember Wendel Clark played D in junior.

We've got around 4M in cap space left, I'd be happy to just sign Pirri and keep Sbisa for now. Russel is going to command 5+M for some stupid team, he's a solid top-4 defenceman but a bit overated.

After losing McCann and Vey we desperately need some versatility and someone who can play center. Gaunce is going to have to play center for a bit at some point, but a guy like Pirri would be fantastic because he's as versatile as it gets. Consistently scores at a 15-20 goal pace on different teams in different roles, he can play center or wing and kill penalties too. Essentially Burrows or Hansen from a few years ago. At 25 I'd sign him to a 3 or 4 year, 3M dollar deal.

Sedin - Sedin - Eriksson

Baertschi - Horvat - Hansen

Pirri - Sutter - Virtanen

Etem - Granlund - Gaunce

Burrows

Dorsett

Rodin

There's a potential 7 x 20 goal scorers in that bunch. Realistically at least 4.

If signing a guy like Hudler bumps someone like Etem out of a regular shift I'm not for it.

I really want to see Etem on a line with Baer and Bo this year, think they will be a handful of a third line that has a good balance of

playmaker-two way centre- high energy grinder.
