-Vintage Canuck-
Quote Newark, NJ—The New Jersey Devils today named Ryane Clowe as an assistant coach. Clowe will join Assistant Coaches Geoff Ward, Alain Nasreddine and Goaltending Coach Chris Terreri on John Hynes’ staff. “We are looking forward to Ryane joining our staff,” said Hynes. “His character, expertise as a player, knowledge of the game and passion to coach will be a benefit for our players and the Devils’ organization.” Clowe, 33, was signed by the Devils on July 5, 2013. He played in 56 games over two seasons with the Devils (2013-14 & 2014-15), scoring eight goals and 22 assists for 30 points, while accumulating 37 penalty minutes. Art Vandelay
Not a bad idea if it works out. Paying him $5 million to be an assistant coach! Is Lamoriello responsible for Clowe, Zajac, Zubrus, Volchenkov and Kovachuk contracts?

Looking at his contract, I see that he has a NMC. Will the Devils be required to protect him for the expansion draft? Or will Bettman just let that be swept under the rug. There will likely be exceptions made for players with no-movement clauses who are out with career-ending injuries.
ItsMillerTime
That will be weird for players who played with him on the ice.
HerrDrFunk
Good for him. I always like to see someone land on their feet after being forced out of the game by injuries.
