[Signing] Red Wings re-sign Luke Glendening

The Detroit Red Wings have re-signed forward Luke Glendening to a 4-year, $7.2 million contract extension with an AAV of $1.8 million.

DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings today signed center Luke Glendening to a four-year contract extension.

 

Glendening, 27, has skated in all but one game for the Red Wings over the past two seasons, picking up a career-high 21 points (8-13-21) and 46 penalty minutes in 81 games for Detroit in 2015-16. He ranked among team leaders with 81 games played (T4th), a plus-four rating (T3rd), three game-winning goals (T4th), 143 hits (2nd), 71 blocked shots (T4th), 20 takeaways (T8th) and a 54.6% faceoff percentage (1st). The 5-foot-11, 194-pound forward has totaled 219 NHL games since 2013-14, picking up 46 points (21-25-46) and 102 penalty minutes. Glendening has also appeared in 17 playoff games for the Red Wings over the past three years, picking up five points (3-2-5) and eight penalty minutes.

 

The Grand Rapids, Mich., native was originally signed as a free agent by the Red Wings after spending the 2012-13 campaign on an American Hockey League contract with the Grand Rapids Griffins. In his first professional season, he helped his hometown team win the AHL’s Calder Cup, picking up 26 points (8-18-26) in 51 regular-season games and adding 16 points (6-10-16) in 24 playoff games. Glendening spent parts of two seasons with the Griffins, registering 38 points (13-25-38) in 69 games. Prior to turning professional, he spent four seasons at the University of Michigan and notched 70 points (31-39-70) in 165 games from 2008-12. A two-year captain for the Wolverines, Glendening helped the team to a 2010 CCHA championship in 2010 and was named the CCHA’s Best Defensive Forward in 2012.
