-Vintage Canuck-
Quote BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Sabres today announced the team has signed forward Marcus Foligno to a one-year contract. Foligno (6’3”, 226 lbs., 8/10/1991), who recently completed his fifth season with the Sabres, posted career-highs in games played (75), goals (10) and points (23) during the 2015-16 campaign. The Buffalo native also tied his career-high with 13 assists last season and paced all Sabres forwards with a plus-4 rating. Drafted by the Sabres in the fourth round (104th overall) of the 2009 NHL Draft, Foligno has posted 93 points (36+57) and 261 penalty minutes in 267 career NHL games. https://sabresdigitalpressbox.com/2016/07/14/sabres-foligno-agree-to-one-year-contract/
SabreFan1
He's a hard working 3rd/4th line grinder. I was glad yesterday morning when he was re-signed.
Harvey Spector
Darn he would have looked nice in a Canucks uni. I guess this means Kane is available? Raymond, Ballard and a first for Kane?
Phil_314
Wonder if J.B. could pry him away for cheap? Even if they can't get his brother (Nick) I feel like he might have upside as a similar player who fits the bill as a big, nasty, shooting winger with an edge, and as a low-risk gamble I'd be willing to pay for a guy who just might meet his upside as a potential power forward. Plus Buffalo has a bunch of wingers who would likely be ahead of him (Kane, Ennis, Moulson? Even Nic Deslauriers might have similar physical upside as a LW??) so maybe they'd be willing to lose him say for a 3rd?

I do believe the new currency is Sbisa, Hansen and a 2nd certainly a downgrade but the market is what it is

Perhaps the funniest part of that press release was "paced all Sabres forwards with a plus-4 rating" Were they that bad last year?

They weren't "Canucks level" bad in goal differential, but still pretty bad. When you're 8th from the bottom in the league, your goals for and against aren't going to look good. Sbisa is worth two Balladrs so the flip from 1st to 2nd round pick balances it out. Hansen and prime Raymond are a wash...

The Manchester Monarchs (Kings AHL affiliate) were about ten deep on defense and they were short on forwards for training camp, so he moved to LW and grabbed a spot: http://www.buffalohockeybeat.com/move-from-defense-to-wing-helped-sabres-nicolas-deslauriers-earn-notice-first-nhl-recall/

cripplereh
plus good signing as he is a great hard workings player that most teams would want for a 3rd line guy

I remember. I look at it this way; in the long run everybody is going to be thankful that last season was painful. Look at who the Canucks drafted. In my opinion, it was worth it no matter how angry I got last season with the team as well as the front office and ownership.
