shadowscyne Posted July 18, 2016 Share Posted July 18, 2016 Ottawa Senators Print E-mail OTTAWA – Ottawa Senators (@Senators) general manager Pierre Dorion announced today the club has acquired forward Derick Brassard and a seventh-round draft pick in 2018 from the New York Rangers in exchange for forward Mika Zibanejad and Ottawa’s second-round draft pick in 2018. Brassard, 28, was selected in the first round (sixth overall) by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2006 NHL Draft. After spending the first five-plus seasons of his career with Columbus, he has spent the last three-plus seasons with New York and established a new NHL career high with a team-leading 27 goals for the Rangers in 2015-16. His 58 points ranked second among New York players in scoring last season. The 2014-15 season saw him register a new career high in both assists (41) and points (60) over a campaign which also saw him finish second among Rangers in scoring. A Gatineau native, Brassard has recorded 343 points (127 goals, 216 assists) and 294 penalty minutes over 563 career National Hockey League contests with Columbus and the Rangers. He has also registered 44 points (18 goals, 26 assists) and 30 penalty minutes over 59 NHL post-season contests, all of which have occurred with New York. Zibanejad, 23, has spent the entirety of his NHL career with Ottawa after being selected with the Senators’ first first-round pick (sixth overall) in the 2011 NHL Draft.
