Finally someone coming up with a positive solution to end this divisivness. Both sides are yelling at eachother with no real representatives to settle any disputes. Both sides need to start to understand eachother.

“I was raised by parents who taught me to love and respect people regardless of their race or background, so I am saddened and frustrated by the divisive rhetoric and racial tensions that seem to be getting worse as of late. I know this country is better than that, and I can no longer stay silent. We need to find solutions that ensure people of color receive fair and equal treatment AND that police officers — who put their lives on the line every day to protect us all — are respected and supported.

“Over the past three decades I have seen up close the dedication of the law enforcement officers who protect me and my family. I have the greatest respect for their sacrifice and service. I also recognize that for many people of color their experiences with law enforcement have been different than mine. I have decided to speak out in the hope that we can come together as Americans, and through peaceful dialogue and education, achieve constructive change.

“To support that effort, I am making contributions of $1 million each to two organizations, the International Association of Chiefs of Police’s newly established Institute for Community-Police Relations and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. The Institute for Community-Police Relations’ policy and oversight work is focused on building trust and promoting best practices in community policing. My donation to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, the nation’s oldest civil rights law organization, will support its ongoing work in support of reforms that will build trust and respect between communities and law enforcement. Although I know these contributions alone are not enough to solve the problem, I hope the resources will help both organizations make a positive difference.”

Here is a solution - if at all possible, make sure you put one white officer with a colored officer as his partner.  Won't solve everything but it might prevent some sh*t.

Sad thing is in the next 10-20years will kids want to be cops growing up seeing this madness?  Even in the next 3-5years, people thinking to join a force must be having 2nd thoughts. I do think more coloured cops would help certain communities.  This presumes that this madness continues on for the foreseeable future. As atm I see nothing that can change what is happening.

On the other hand, I can see the argument being made that race shouldn't determine where you work and live. that's for a different thread, though.

What part of 'if at all possible' don't you understand?

its just a stupid suggestion... i dont think you have any comprehension to the demographics... i know i don't, but I know that the amount of white police officers vs the amount of black police officers (even in the states where theres a lot more black people) isn't anywhere close to 1:1... i doubt its 10:1.. its probably closer to 100:1

certain cities like Baltimore and Atlanta may have a higher percentage, but then theres all the towns that probably have little to no black cops at all.

you passed your comment off like it was a simple solution to a very complex problem

There is a long-standing reputation in the big American cities of black police being self-hating traitors to their own brothers.  This scenario was one of the narratives of the early 90s when the riots got real bad.

What part of "Won't solve everything but it might prevent some sh*t." ... don't you understand?

For all others, the reason why I used the term 'colored' and not 'black' is because I know that the ratio is not anywhere near 1:1 so my idea included Latino's, (which is a huge demographic in the US), Asians, and Indian, etc.  The point is to show racial diversity in each squad car ... again, if at all possible.

I also know that this is not the solution to the whole problem ... duh.  It's a start and a step in the right direction.  My idea is probably going to be 10x better than the $1m donation to those 2 organization that MJ is donating to.

Well if every cop wears a camera that'll help.  Every time I see a shoddy cel phone camera recording of police brutality, whether it's a white polish immigrant or black drug dealer, I always cringe at the fact that if no one filmed it nothing would be done to the officers involved.  Next step is education both for the police and public.  It's no secret that law enforcement is not getting the proper training across to its members on how to deal with mental illness.  Remember the cops tasering that 11yo kid?

That is such poor handling by the RCMP on so many levels.  But incidents like this will continue to happen unless the proper measures aren't taken soon.

Because black is better? Are most Africans not shades of brown?

How about we just call each other humans? Or our names? As long as people see pigmentation before personality, this stupid problem will persist.
