(Proposal) Edm & Van

Recommended Posts

To Vancouver:

Nail Yakupov

To: Edmonton

Luca Sbisa (retain 25% of Salary)

2017 3rd (can't remember if we have one or not)

There were rumours before the draft that Edmonton was asking for a 3rd, if this was true I think some team would have made that trade. Adding Sbisa sweetens the deal because the Oilers still need more defense despite getting Adam Larsson. I think Yakupov is a better alternative than Evander Kane. He might still be maturing as a person and player but at least he isn't consistently in trouble with the law. Having a fresh start may also help raise his offensive numbers, and at worst we have a 3rd liner scoring 30 points a season. He is also someone who could help the second unit on the power play.

Your opinions?

If the Oilers are eager to rid themselves of Yakupov, I don't know that they will be as willing to let him go to a team in the division. But if they really do want to let him go, and they're worried about him excelling in the same division on another team, the ask for more him may be more than just a pick and a bottom 6 slug like Sbisa.

Well, it's not so much the Oilers are eager to ditch him, as it is that he wants out. Yakupov requested the trade. He wants to revive his career, and knows that he can't in Edmonton. The Oilers wrecked him, the least they could do is move him. I'd keep Sbisa and send a third over personally.

I'd much rather send Sbisa and keep our third personally.. Tryamkin, Brisebois and Lockwood are all JB's 3rd round picks and I'd keep any of them over Sbisa.

Either Sbisa for Yak or a 3rd for Yak. Not both

Ideally yeah, but if Edmonton were to be firm on a 3rd + Sbisa (get edm to throw in a late round pick though if they need us to retain salary) for Yak, I wouldn't be upset if nucks management went for it. However.. I still don't see it happening due to us being in the same division.

How about Tanev for Eberle? Or Tanev for Draitsl and Yakupov?  That might be interesting for both clubs.  Yes I know it is inter-divisional trading, but EDM has made trades to hated CAL on occasion, so these thing do happen...

So let me get this straight. You want to offer E-town (a divisional competitor) Sbisa (pay a portion of his salary not to play for the Canucks) and a 3rd round pick in the next draft for Yak. In return we receive the services of a Russian with an attitude and a porn star mustache who has managed to play his way off the Oil a team who have tied an NHL record futility by successfully missing the playoffs for the past decade.

My opinion: No f'ing way!

I think Van would need to trade a pretty valuable pick in that second deal..

That's 2 top 3 overall prior draft picks right there & draisaitl put up 19g-32a in his first full season in the nhl (72 games)

an attitude? he had no motivation in his fourth year in Edmonton (big surprise..) and yeah was called out for it. doesn't mean he has an attitude, and from what i can tell he doesn't..

he is still a talented and passionate player - the oilers have just given up on him. which is why it's the perfect time to trade for him.

Yes it's a first and third, one could still be a bust, the other had a very good year and probably is going to be a very good player in this league.  Just maybe they aren't done overpaying...probably trading Hall isn't going to plug that many holes and they still have a lot of work to do.  Who knows? Personally I wouldn't trade Yakupov for much on his own though...

I think you mean you wouldn't trade much for Yakupov? I don't even know if Edm would now pay Draisaitl for Tanev let alone throw in Yak though.

and also it's not really true that he could be a bust - he'll always be a 3rd liner at worst in the nhl. but I truly think the canuck's young roster and general mentality going into next year could get his game going again

Yak:

Size - no.

Grit - no.

Character - no.

Skill - hasn't translated well to the NHL consistently.

Scoring - see immediately above.

At this point he's functioning at a 3rd line capacity and we're already flush with 3rd liners so.....pass.

How about a little research before you start spit balling there Shecky.

Yak could be a real player if he was placed in the right environment.  I think everybody gets that.

It amazes me how many people on here assume we will not have another injury plagued season. 2 seasons ago it was bad but last season was an injury meltdown. We are not yet in a position where we are stacked enough in Utica to "give" players like Sbisa away.

Hell we don't even know if Tryampkin or Larsen will work out or if Hutton will not have a sophomore slump.

And for Yakapov, a guy who seems far too self entitled and erratic.

I think we have still to see the best of Sbisa. I like his skill going forward, his physicality and his selfless attitude.

Yeah and my auntie could be my uncle if she had a pair of balls.

They did just give up Hall for Larson though.  Maybe Chirelli is off his nut a bit?

(Personally, I have ZERO interest in Yakupov - at any price.)

Draisaitl has much, much more value than Eberle does. No way they trade him straight across for Tanev, let alone include Yak too.

This will be his 9th season, he'll be 27 in January and will have played over 400 NHL games...what you see is what you get and what you're ever going to get from Sbisa...

Nice job on editing out the overpament line, and in the spirit of overpayment, maybe they aren't done yet and would like to trade (BLANK) for Tanev.  Yes i get it.  But thanks for not correcting my grammer.

Yes and on the topic is a blown up salary but would help solidify the oils D. Better than what they have now.
