to me the question for next year is....

To me the question for next year is.... will smithers joe manage to write a post without ellipses in it?

But I digress. I think Sutter should be used in a checking role freeing up Horvat to a more secondary scoring role. So Sutter would be ideal on a line with Hansen and Burrows/Etem/Granlund. Leaving Baertschi and Rodin/Virtanen with Horvat. But Willie has a mind of his own doesn't he?

I was saying for a while to put him on the RW with Horvat and Baertschi and trade Hansen for draft picks, but IDK now. Playing him for half of the season on the 2nd line C and the other half of the season on the 3rd line C with him and Horvat rotating is probably the best thing with him for this season. It will be interesting to see how he does in the future though, he was really good when he played with the Sedins and got 4 goals and 3 assists in like 9 games (I think it was), so that could also be an option if Eriksson goes down to an injury for a while. We have him for 5 years at 4.6 million, so hopefully he doesn't start to suck.

You should... ask me that same question. xD Anyway, Willie and Jim want to get Gagner or Hudler on the 2nd line still, so that plan sadly won't happen. Unless they miss out on both of them.

EDIT: Oh, apparently Gagner signed with Columbus 2 hours ago... well, there goes one.

Here's hoping the other follows suit very soon and signs with another team. There's absolutely no reason to bring Hudler in this year.

I don't think Hudler is getting much or any other offers, so we might be in trouble. Benning thinks that we need a guy like him to protect Baertschi and let him progress at his own rate, even though he looks and plays like a top 6 guy right now (and did with Calgary a while ago before they pissed him off). He's 23-24 as well and doesn't need to be protected in my opinion. And it's better if he plays with older guys like Hansen and Sutter on the 2nd line instead of Horvat and Virtanen or Etem on the 3rd line anyway. It's top 6 or bust this and next season for him I heard, if the rumors are true that he'll go to Europe if he's not a top 6 guy, so he needs this 2nd line playing time badly.

Brandon Sutter is a player with two-way tendencies. Along with being a natural leader he has a great frame, can shut down opponents and excels at scoring goals off the rush down the right side of the ice. What I think that lacks in his game is the confidence to produce offensively. I see him starting on the second line in the middle, while Bo Horvat starts on the third line with Sven Baertschi and one of Anton Rodin and Jake Virtanen. The only other winger left is Jannik Hansen, which will likely be Sutter's linemate on the second line. If the Canucks could acquire a second line left winger with offensive skillset, that would be a huge boost to our offence, as well, gives us a 'real good' second line.

I'm still not sure how Rodin and Virtanen will turn out in training camp and in pre-season, they may surprise people or disappoint us. But if the Canucks decide to be patient with them, then they will just wait and see how they progress, rather than making a pitch for a second line winger right now.

You think WD was not serious when he said Baertschi was taking Horvat away from his game and it's better for Horvat to play with defensive wingers?   He only had them together in March when there were injuries otherwise he had them on separate lines.   (Note - Horvat and Baertschi played together from mid-Dec to end of February and were split on 1 March).

Also I don't see the logic now that Baertschi was finally back to creating.  WD gave him more of an offensive role to finish the season and was talking of how his game got to another level - why would he put him back on a checking line.

If everything remains the same and we don't find that 2LW and how well Virtanen's training camp goes, you could put together Sutter between Eriksson and Virtanen and see if something gives there. So it would something like this....

Sedin Sedin Hansen

Eriksson Sutter Virtanen

Baertschi Horvat Etem/Rodin

Dorsett Granlund Burrows

Edler Tanev

Hutton Gudbranson

Tryamkin Larsen/Sbisa

That makes some sense..   Would give us goal scoring potentially on all 3 top lines...

Are you sure? I recall them being together for some games prior to March.

My formulation is confusing.

It's a given that they played together from mid-December up to end of February, but WD split them up as of 1 March.

He had Baertschi with Granlund in March - but Granlund went down with injury and he then had Baertschi with Vey and then only with Horvat.  As soon as Granlund was back, Baertschi was back with him.

Benning says he wants an LW to not put pressure on Baertschi and let him develop at his own pace - why would he want to shift the pressure to Virtanen who is further back in his development?

Just something to try anyway, you never know until you try. More realistically one of Sutter's line will probably be Hansen, while Baertschi and Horvat will probably  on the same line together.

Would love to see Horvat on a line with Hansen. 2 seasons ago they were great with Kenins on their wing.

Sedin, Sedin, Eriksson

Beartschi. Horvat, Hansen

Burrows, Sutter, Rodin/Virtanen

Etem, Granlund, Dorsett
