RIO 2016. the "messolympics"

1st of all I´m posting this as a Brazilian and not as a tourist. so it´s my point of view as a native...

yes I know Rio de Janeiro and that´s WHY me and millions of Brazilians considered this event a terrible idea...

but to make it easier I will make it in small topics...

THERE ARE BETTER CITIES IN BRAZIL...

Many would suggest Brasilia (Brazil´s capital) for many reasons, it´s a planned city, it´s located in the central region of Brazil, has a gorgeous architecture, WAAAY better water treatment, the Airport kick ass (best in Latin America), low violence, weel organised streets, military bases around the city and it´s sunny and hot all year long...

other will say the Northeast´s cities would also be nice, such as Natal, Salvador and Fortaleza. gorgeous beaches, gorgeous food, friendly people, water quality 100% better than in Rio do Janeiro...

others would suggest Manaus or Belém due to the "jungle factor" because simmers would love dispute their competittions swiming on the Amazon river. and it´s awesome. I did it and it´s amazing...

so why Rio? because just like Los Angeles Rio is a touristic city but you wouldn´t live there actually...

WE´RE REBUILDING OUR ECONOMY and COUNTRY...

13 years of Socialism destroyed Brazil to it´s ashes. we impeached a president and the new guy is doing a reasonable job to fix the mess. but there´s a lot of thing to be fixed...

the political caos is still on, the former-former president Lula will go to trial and very likely pass sometime in the jail...

the country still face a complete rebuilding and honestly we have other things to care and not a fancy and expensive event...

if we need a fancy event every year we have the Formula-1 Grand Prix, fancy too but only last 4 days and not an entire month...

so appart the people FROM Rio the rest of Brazil isn´t that much into the Olimpics...

SO WHY DIDN´T WE PROTESTED BEFORE?

We did. but the government didn´t listen the population, the same one who for 13 years only looked for their asses. now these wuppies will pay for that...

THE "SOUTH REGION" FACTOR

if you never visited Brazil you should know that the south region of Brazil is composed by a HUGE european, Russian and Japanese immigration...

so due to this fact people from the south of Brazil are very demanding and don´t tolerate big mess. also the protests AGAINST the Olimpics held the biggest numbers in this region...

during the "Torch passage" around the south of Brazil many cities simply refuse to party during the event, many cities literaly "closed" during the event...

"Thanks" to this Olimpic the people from this region started to want a full separation from Brazil telling that the south region can deal better alone because a small country have a better managment and other things people there don´t agree with the central government...

RIO DOES NOT REPRESENT THE BRAZIL´S CULTURE...

Brazil is huge, very huge and so the culture is also very diversed. the "Rio de Janeiro´s style" represent only their style...

if you go to the South region of Brazil you will find yourself in mini-versions of Germany, Italy, Japan, Poland and Russia. in some cities if you speak the germany language people will actually understand you because 95% of the population on that city came from Germany...

however if you go to the Central-West of Brazil you will find something like "Texas Style" due to huge areas of farming...

goes North? Jungle culture mixed with the South region culture...

Northeast? diversed culture soaked with old colonial art and lifestyle and a mix of african and Jewish cultures...

and by the record I´m being easy. each state here has it´s own regional culture...

SO IT´S RIO´S PROBLEM?

yes and no...

Yes because AFTER the event the state and the city of Rio de Janeiro are literally bankrupt, they own BILLIONS and they cannot pay for that on a short term...

if you have plans to visit Rio after the event forget it. go to Vitoria (350km North). better city, smaller...

no because this event will cost A LOT to the entire country. and guess WHO will pay for that?

THE EGOMANIACSISM OF A CARIOCA...

"Carioca" is a person from Rio de Janeiro and if you think that Donald Trump has a big ego wait untill you see a Carioca...

Rio de Janeiro was the Brazil´s capital untill 1970 when Brasilia took the place. everybody in Brazil considered a good idea except those from Rio...

they still think that the only city of Brazil that matters is Rio de Janeiro...

doesn´t matter if the economic powerhouse of the country is located 400km west from Rio, in São Paulo...

also doesn´t matter if the food the carioca eats and drinks come from the south, Central-west and north region...

also doesn´t matter if the northeast of Brazil have 2000% better beaches than those in Rio de Janeiro...

no. for a Carioca Rio de Janeiro is the place. doesn´t matter if any city in Iraq and Syria is less violent than Rio de Janeiro and that the water in Fukushima is less poluted than the water in Rio de Janeiro...

a true Carioca still thinks that Rio is "THE PLACE"...

RIO IS THAT VIOLENT?

wanna see how is a city in Iraq and Syria under ISIS control but without the sharia law?

well. go to Rio. 100% gunfire and explosions but you still can do wathever you want...

SO I STILL WANNA VISIT BRAZIL, BUT NOT RIO, WHERE SHOULD I GO?

Manaus, Belém, Brasilia, Fortaleza, São Luis, Natal, Salvador, Porto Seguro, São Paulo, Florianopolis, Porto Alegre, Brusque (if you really want speak germany)...

all these cities are fine and you will enjoy them...

BUT I´M ALREADY IN RIO AND I DON´T SPEAK PORTUGUESE. SHOULD I BE SCARED?

yes. a lot...

@aeromotacanucks

Very interesting and thought provoking post. I suggest you edit the title quickly though otherwise it will most likely be deleted because of the swear word. It would be a shame if such a well written post was deleted for such a small reason. Perhaps "Why the Rio Olympics was a horrible idea, from a Brazilian" might be a more suitable title?

I was thinking about "messOlimpics" but the "f word" was more suitable...

Haven't seen you in awhile here Aero. Where've you been? I was wondering when you would weigh in on this topic. I know you were against it from the start. Now we all see exactly why. And although I appreciate your title I'm sure it'll get you in some hot water with the mods. Better change it when you get the chance.

Amazing that the Olympics are still going forward in Rio with everything that is coming to light. These are the kinds of things that happen when governments don't listen to their own people. Corrupt politicians most likely getting richer from an event that should have never gotten this far in the first place. Will be pretty interesting to see how this all plays out.

Glad to see you back, @aeromotacanucks.  I was hoping to see your insight on the Olympics.  Somehow I didn't think you would be impressed.

Thanks for posting!

my point is simple...

Olympics are too expensive and basically benefit only one city...

there are better cities in Brazil to host the games, people from other countries visit Rio de Janeiro because honestly these people are very stupid. why?

Rio is an expensive city, noisy, caotic, with egomaniac people who speak (or "ixxxxxpeak") a confusing language that looks like portuguese but it´s not...

they didn´t realise that if you go 350km north to Vitoria you will have better and cleaner beaches and with cheaper acomodations since Vitoria isn´t an international touristic (it´s a domestic touristic city) city but since it´s smaller you will spend less...

I can´t stand the fact that Cariocas are braging  "we´re hosting the Olympics and your city isn´t"...

hope the same Cariocas brag "we cannot pay our bills and our city and state are broken so we cannot receive our salary"...

Cariocas aren´t thinking about the entire country, like "Brazil is hosting the event", for them is "Rio de Janeiro is hosting the event"

nevermind. after the event they will travel 400km to São Paulo because their city and state don´t have a single cent anymore...

Brasilia´s Airport

if you ask 10 Brazilians the 10 Brazilians will tell you 3 things about this airport...

1) it´s a masterpiece or quality, the airport the Brazilians deserve...

-for aviators. big, safe and large runways, ILS CAT 2 on all of the runways, huge parking areas...

2) the best airport in Brazil. (also elected the best airport in Latin America)

3) this airport needs more international flights. why all of them going to São Paulo and Rio when this airport is there? better, safer, in a central location of Brasil...
