Been told #Canucks gm Jim Benning called Chris Tanev and his agent this week to shoot down recent trade rumours. #Canucks

Benning told the Tanev camp that he doesn't want to trade him but there was also no guarantee made. #Canucks

This article also goes a bit into Buffalo's mindset with Vesey, and how his decision could influence an Evander Kane trade in or around August, which supports some rumors I've been reading regarding Buffalo waiting on Vesey to go on with their future transactions. Certainly we couldn't be giving Tanev up for Kane - is there a bigger discussion being going on by our GM? What do you guys think?

He wouldn't be doing his job if he isn't actively finding ways in making the team better. I agree with you -- I don't think he would give up Tanev for Kane. It's just not worth the risk; look how Kassian turned out. However, it is intriguing to see what Tanev's return would be after seeing the Hall/Larsson robbery.

So Horvat and Etem say absolutely nothing about trade rumours, they just share a headline with the rumour in a cheap attempt to get you to read the article:

That's Hockeybuzz for ya

Kane has pled not guilty and has a Sept 9 court date in Buffalo.  I can't imagine anything happens re a trade until after that date.

Re Tanev.  It doesn't make any sense to me to blow apart the top 4 now that Benning has finally been able to gather a complete set (2 RHD, 2 LHD)

There are very few players I'd be happy to trade Tanev for before the season starts. One of them is Landeskog. If JB can somehow swing a deal for Landeskog around Tanev, then I'm all for it. Otherwise management should sit tight and go with the ebbs and flow of training camp and October before looking into trading him. A Dman that could get traded without leaving such a huge gap would be Sbisa. He's a good #5 who can step up into the top 4 to fill a gap if need be, but we have a glut of players on our roster and some of the players standing on the periphery should be getting worried.

I agree completely....with everything you said. The Hall/Larsson really does make one think what is Tanev worth. Sell High!....Tanevs stock is very high right now, so the return would be a huge.....but plz JB stay away from E Kane...P Kane would be ok tho.

If Sam Reinhart is coming back the other way with Kane sure.

Otherwise I don't see how it makes sense to trade our best defender when we don't have anyone to replace him.

With Miller maybe? Ive always thought a trade with Buffalo would involve Miller.

Why would he want to go back there? He wants to play somewhere near Hollywood where his wife works not farther.

This is interesting, I don't feel JB would give up Tanev for Kane, especially when there has been conjecture on Buffalo having interest in Sbisa (gritty), we would just need to add a piece.  I think there is something better in the works, but who would be coveting Tanev, and pay what we would want for him?

Skilled gritty wingers are easy to draft, a defensive defenceman at Tanev's level doesn't come every day, so it better be damn good!

Keep Tanev trade Edler.  Trade sbisa with Hansen. Why because his stock is all time high. A sbisa/Hansen/biega deal rounds out nicely to some plug franchise like Anaheim who seems to like to take out our garbage. ( not really meant to degrade the players as much as trash talk a division rival)

So... Who's replacing Edler? Y'know? <_<

Only way we trade him is if it's for a young impact player with first line potential.

Landeskog is the only player rumored that would make sense to me.
