boomer29
I sure hope during training sessions this summer the big guy has had some time with guys like Grudbranson, Pedan, Dorsett, Prust, etc. Sure...he's huge and strong... seems to like to hit guys.... but it would suck if he got his a-- kicked in his first (inevitable) confrontation in the NHL by a goon like Lucic, etc.

alfstonker
I don't think Tryamkin would have too many challengers after all we all saw how strong the guy is and he has a massive reach. Anyway I doubt he has grown up as a kid in a Russian city without getting into a few scraps. Anyway he's obviously not "shy" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5JaJpicSDc&feature=player_embedded Honestly could you see many NHL players including Chara wanting much of that? Let's all remember though, he is only 21 and I really don't think we want him getting into fights in his first full season as a Canuck, there is plenty of time for that. Hairy Kneel
21 it's hard to remember how young he is he hits like a mack truck. Good thing he has Guddy to teach him the ropes. How to watch for the inevitable whiny push back after he hits someone.

Even Higgins stepped in to keep Getzlaf from trying to get involved. As long as Tryampkin is playing by the rules any vet would look cheap having a go at him and Guddy has already shown with Florida, he has a good memory. canucklehead44
I don't think Tryamkin will be dropping the gloves with goons. He will be getting involved in scrums, and maybe having to stick up for himself but he won't actively be fighting. Watched a couple of his fights - he can hold his own, but not skilled in this department. This is where Pedan comes in. Other than the one fight where Stu Bickel got the best of him (worst fighter of all time Kostopolous dropped Bieksa once) his fight card is dominate against non-enforcer tough guys (Nolan, Tinordi, McIlrath). Pedan won't be a pure enforcer, but I would expect around a fight every 7 or 8 games from him.

Being tough in your own end is fine and that's what Tryamkin can can bring, he is a Canuck so if he gets into a fight it will be a 5 and a game. Well fighting can be a bit of a lottery unless you are highly skilled like Rypien. I mean no one saw Volpatti dropping Winchester (a renowned tough guy) with one punch leaving him to be carried off the ice. As I say I don't want to see Tryampkin fighting and as for Pedan he will have his work cut out just to make the team from what I've seen.

His first call-up everybody loved him. In Tryamkin's first game Pedan made a few awful plays and despite improving after that the general fan base seemed to lose faith in him. Pedan is a very rare combination of size, skating ability, hard shot, and fighting skills. His hockey sense lacks a bit. I watched four Utica games live this year and he sometimes tries to do too much and he doesn't quite have the control or agility as say Jordan Subban. That said, when he hits it is like a truck running into the boards. I really like both players. Even if they don't pan out, at least they bring some excitement, upside and toughness vs other 7/8 guys in the past.

Getzlaf had his way with McCann last year and no one did anything about it. I sure hope we aren't the same way next year. It was embarrassing watching getzlaf rag doll McCann and no one would do anything. Gudbrandanson should help with that, but it was still pretty embarrassing. IBatch
I wouldn't call Lucic a goon - more like a player with some skill who can fight, WELL. If he did fight him and lost he would be in some pretty good company, given he only has a few losses on his fight card. Tryamkin should develop into a pretty fierce physical presence, which should at times require that he backs it up - players have a good memory and if they feel like they need to get even at some point usually do, often with the gloves off. If Tryamkin is at all worried about this department, boxing lessons are the usual route (we have had a whole lot of guys on our team who have included this in their workout regiment in the past). If not this than Youngbloods barn works just fine (man that cracked me up!). Guddy shouldn't be our pigeonholed fighter either, we have Dorsett for that even, if he is usually outmatched that is his role and he knows it. Pedan, if he makes the team, is going to bring a lot of extra toughness and I think he will surprise most that decide to drop them (FYI McIrath/Undertaker, is a goon - absolutely destroyed everyone before joining the Rangers). Given that the enforcer role is wiped out (for now) it is nice to see the Canucks have some options on this team when the bell does ring.
Lumberer
For me i would like to see if they can let ouer new defence play on the strenght , why cant we use big defenders play big hockey style and let them play the style they now best, forwards can adapt after them ! - use all ouer big defence guys first. - let them use their bodies. - let them decide and rule how Canucks gona play.
