I just got back from the airport.  I borrowed a 7 iron, and it went on forever!

explain Himenez, Cabrara, Daly, Stadler, and the host of out of shape, overweight, cigar smoking, scotch drinking (while they play) top players.  And I know there are A LOT more of these guys, who regularly go out and beat the flat bellies.  Are these previously mentioned guys superior athletes?  I don't mind golf being in the Olympics, but I don't believe it should be classified as a sport.  It's an activity.  IMHAO, of course.

I don't understand why you keep bringing up guys who are OUT OF SHAPE? You are basically saying all golfers are not elite athletes because of someone else has a beer gut. That way of thinking would make no sport have elite athletes especially Football (which has some of the most athletic people on the planet ever)

I can explain those players by saying they are not consistent, and they are not top golfers and never were for longer than a few months at a time.

Phil Mickelson is the only guy I can think of who was/is consistently a top golfer and in not the greatest shape. Someone said Bubba Watson, but I wouldn't consider him out of shape. Bubba is also the one guy on the tour right now I would argue abuses technology and technique to be better than his actual skill. (uses a driver that changes from 2 degrees to 14.5 degrees depending on how he swings, and gets the ball to spin as if it was hit by a 9.5 degree driver...technical stuff i do not wish to explain)

Sports are when teams or individuals compete against each other. In golf, the winner is whoever posts the best score. I'd call it a game...but most Olympic events would not be considered a sport, technically.

To be honest I once did play too much golf.  The clubs had hickory shafts, and the balls were made from feathers.  The game just got too expensive.

Jim Furyk, ugliest golf swing in the pros, but it works well for him.

As a person who has a diploma in Professional Golf Management (I know that sounds dumb, I also got a 4 year BBA ), I can tell you that the effort exerted in a single golf shot(for professionals), training pro-golfers go through, and mental/physical strain golfers go through... is just as intense if not more than other sports.

To me it is just as deserving to be an olympic sport as any other. There is a reason as to why in the last 10 years all the best and consistent golfers are the best athletes and in great shape.

For being such great athletes they're so lazy they need someone else to carry their clubs.

I used to play golf when I was in my teens and was pretty decent tbh, but it never compared to hockey or soccer or baseball that I also played. Those were sports that I was actually physically drained from after playing them, Golf I was more mentally drained from the boredom definitely not physically drained.

Caddies are more of a traditional thing when golf was for the elites. Was only like 50 years ago, only blacks were allowed to carry your clubs at Augusta. Also, traditionally profession golfers player 36 holes a day on Saturday then Sunday, after working all week. (golf didn't pay bills professionally unless you were Harry Vardon, Ted Ray, Walter Hagen...etc, most were amateurs). So when when the PGA and any other tour started, caddies were actually necessary and since have evolved for other things.

Now a days caddies provide players information on the course, and also provide help in other ways that make the came speed up (takes almost 5 hours already).

I won't argue with you that one round of golf as a teen is not strenuous. But with practice, practice rounds, then 4 rounds in 4 days, i'm sure you would eventually say that golf is physically tiring.

If your original post was to say golf is not strenuous, and shouldn't be in the Olympics then I'm okay with that opinion. But rather I just disagree.

If there is already volleyball, why is there beach volleyball?  Are there any volleyball players out there who can explain the skill differences?  How come our top volleyball players don't play on the beach team?  I heard we have a couple guys who can spike from 12 feet high.  Wouldn't they win gold on the beach?  Why don't we do that?

As someone who has only played indoor volleyball "competitively", my understanding is that the two are actually pretty different. Simply the difference in players per side changes the tactics. The balls are also different, the indoor balls are slightly smaller and heavier. Throw in the different playing surface and the elements and I'd say it'd be hard to be top tier in both simultaneously.

You mean there is Golf in Olympics, but no wrestling lol. Yeah that is weird but I can't explain it.

I guess the Marathon comes out next.  Oh and then take out Javelin.  I cheer for us to win in every event, but how can there be an Olympics without Greco-Roman wrestling?
