The RCMP says a potential terrorist attack on a major Canadian city was thwarted on Wednesday after national security officials intervened in the alleged suicide bomb plot.

Sources told CTV’s Mercedes Stephenson that the lone male suspect was linked to ISIS.

According to an internal government document obtained by CTV News, the suspect allegedly planned to use an IED to carry out a suicide bombing mission in a public area. The suspect’s alleged plan, according to the document, was to create mass casualties.

A major RCMP counter-terrorism operation was swiftly carried out on Canadian soil on Wednesday. Security officials were able to locate the suspect and stop him from carrying out the alleged plan.

The RCMP has not said what city was targeted, where the suspect was found or released any details on the suspect. Security officials say there is no longer a threat to national security.

The RCMP released a statement saying it received "credible information of a potential terrorist threat" earlier in the day.

"A suspect was identified and the proper course of action has been taken to ensure that there is no danger to the public's safety," the statement said.

"The safety and security of Canadians is of the utmost importance to the RCMP and we take all such threats seriously. As this is still an unfolding matter and that the investigation is still underway, we are not able to provide further comment at this time."

Just like the US three letter agencies.  "We stopped them but we can't tell you anything about it"!

Eventually when the truth does come out much later, they look like over-exaggerating fools.

I wonder if the Mounties just felt left out and wanted to get in on the silliness.

Yeah, not the best title, but I just went along with what CTV had. But they updated it, so it's better now.

Instead of complaining, let's be thankful that Canada hasthe best police force in the world!

The RCMP has thwarted this suicide IED bomb plot and that attempt on the Via Rail train for a year or two back.

Im thankful we have a police force where the police actually catch the bad guys instead of shooting black people.

I was less worried about the title and more concerned that the post was missing the term and AAV... you're usually on top of all that :bigblush:

Seriously, glad it was averted, and hopefully officials are correct that there is no longer a threat.  I wonder if we'll know where it was.  Stay safe, all!

Watch them (RCMP) get nailed for entrapment, again.

Pics and places please. Bugs me when they hold back info, and it's crappy journalism to boot.

Pretty sure I was in the 5th grade when we learned the basics of journalism -

6 words (5 W's and 1 H). We got "what" and a bit of "how".

a fire cracker in a garbage can with the words isis on the side would be considered major news and coverage would go on for weeks.  when as a country have we become so wimpy?

Wimpy? A dude was going to blow $&!# up in Canada. How is that not $&!# is getting real enough for you? Stop trying to downplay it. For all we know, it could have been people we know being randomly killed by a jackass like this.

Aaron Driver..so now white ppl are apart of ISIS

Does this mean that arrogant ppls will call all White and Muslims terrorists and alaaah hu akbars now?

This intrigues me

Just like 911 was never about Muslims.  Look around at what's happening, how they scare you into agreeing with something then turn it right back around on you.  Classic Hegellian dialectic -- problem, reaction, solution.  They keeping doing it because it works.  Time to stop being so gullible.

This article reads like a translation, or a collection of headlines.  God, why is something so simple so hard nowadays?
