(Proposal) VAN - BUF + Signing

Recommended Posts

To BUF:

Hutton (0.896,250)

Etem (0.775)

Dorsett (2.65)

3rd Round Pick 2017

To VAN:

Reinhart (0.894,166)

McCormick (1.5)

Cap Space Post Trade:

Vancouver: 5.3 million

Buffalo: 7.3 million

*Vancouver sheds about 1.9 million in cap space.

Reasoning for Canucks:

The Canucks add a future #1 centre and a current top-6 forward. They also clear some cap space and make the roster situation a little looser. We lose Hutton, which creates a temporary hole. In the short term, the Canucks can make a signing or move someone up the depth chart like Sbisa or Tryamkin, but that option is a bit riskier for the players' development. Short term, we can sign Kris Russell. Long term, after Edler is also gone, we will have either a newly drafted defenseman (from the 2017 or 2018 draft), a surprise defenseman (Brisebois, Candella, Tryamkin, Pedan, etc.) or a signed defensman who can fill in the gap on the left side behind Juolevi.

Sign:

Russell: 2-years, 2.75 million per

Canucks 2016-17 Lineup:

Sedin - Sedin - Hansen

Eriksson - Sutter - Reinhart

Baertschi - Horvat - Burrows

Gaunce - Granlund - Virtanen

Rodin

Edler - Tanev

Russell - Gudbranson

Tryamkin - Larsen

Sbisa, Biega

Pedan

For the Canucks moving forward, they give up an important piece for a key piece. Reinhart and Horvat as our 1-2 punch down the middle will be hard to play against.

_______ - Reinhart - Boeser

Baertschi - Horvat - Virtanen

Granlund - Gaunce - Lockwood

Zalewski - Cassels - Zhukenov

Juolevi - Tanev

_____/Brisebois - Gudbranson

Tryamkin - Subban

Pedan, Stetcher

Demko

Markstrom

Reasoning for Buffalo:

The Sabres are looking to bolster their blue line as they have a solid group of young and established forwards already. With O'Reilly and Eichel as their top-6 centres for long time, Reinhart is the odd man out. He has been playing wing effectively, but they also have Nylander who will be coming up who can replace him. While Reinhart is a great young player, Buffalo would have a chance to add a promising young defensman who could potentially play with Ristolainen in the future for a somewhat expendable piece. They have O'Reilly, Eichel, Okposo and Nylander who can take up Reinhart's potential spots. While Nylander develops, Moulson can play in the top-6 for a little bit.

Sabres 2016-17 Lineup:

Kane - O'Reilly - Okposo

Ennis - Eichel - Moulson

Etem - Girgensons - Deslauriers

Foligno - Larsson - Gionta

Dorsett

Kulikov - Ristolainen

Hutton - Bogosian

McCabe - Franson

Gorges

Why would Buffalo want Edler?

They might want his experience playing in all situations as a number one Dman while on a very successful team.  Is not Buffalo further along in their rebuild than us?  Edler, considering that point, might be more needed for them?

So he can decline while the rest of the team improves?

They already have some experience on the back end with Kulikov and Gorges. They aren't as good as Edler, but they are getting ready to shed some of that veteran leadership so their kids can take over.

If Edler is declining, like you say, why should we keep him then, and trade the young player in Hutton.  I think Buffalo would prefer Edler anyway.  Where is a Buffalo fan?

Another lopsided quantity for quality CDC proposal.

Eichel is the franchises cornerstone and Reinhart has great chemistry with him.  It makes absolutely no sense to trade Reinhart in his sophomore year.

Also, the Sabres have no need to get rid of McCormick's contract.  It's already designated on the LTIR list and expires at the end of the season.  The cap space isn't needed this year.

We're all laughing at you and the OP for thinking that this trade is even close to being in the realm of possibility.

I'd consider a package deal with Hutton for Reinhart, but as SabreFan says, they aren't looking to move him at this point so the deal would have to be lucrative for them to consider it. I'm sure that'd make it too rich for our blood, but Reinhart is someone we know Benning and Co had looked at previously and he would be a top 6 upgrade in our pool of young players.
