BCNeil
Quote CALGARY, AB – The Calgary Flames announced today that left wing Chris Higgins will join the club for training camp on a professional try-out (PTO). The Smithtown, New York native has spent the last six seasons with the Vancouver Canucks notching 62 goals and 80 assists for 142 points and 82 penalty minutes in 314 games. This is Higgins’ second stint with the Flames organization after he was traded to Calgary in 2009-10 and played 12 games and recorded three points (2G, 1A). http://flames.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=891827
Fan since 82
Good luck Higgy! Always liked him, and hope he can win a spot on another team.

Ossi Vaananen
Maybe his foot is better and his speed picks up. All the best- he's the reason I experiment with beards.

I always thought his upside was as a 3rd line winger but he really is a 4th line pk'er given his lack of hands. That being said, as a 4th liner he could be 'elite' given his speed, tenaciousness and checking ability. He was sadly miscast here and expectations then became too high for him, and the fans turned on him. I hope had a good summer training and can extend his career. He always gave 110 % here and I hope the best for him as a player! If he can stick it out one more year, he might be able to latch onto Las Vegas for one final contract! Warhippy
He'll be what he always has been on that squad. An elite bottom 6 player who is getting too old to play the role the Canucks asked of him the last 3 seasons in a middle 6 role. Seeing him on the 4th or even 3rd line as a regular and not having him asked to do more will energize his career and possibly give him another 2 seasons or more. He'll be a guy we moan about coming in to March...when we trade a 2nd for him

ItsMillerTime
Higgins was one of my favourite players. I have a hockey stick what he used in a game. I also love this video.

Don't forget that Higgens had some good years with the nucks where he did show promise of good hands. When others were dragging their butts on the ice, Higgy was propping them up with his tenacity. It was that promise and a lack of youth development that led to him being cast in top 6/9 role when he was starting to slow down and accruing injuries. The lack of support and understanding from Canuck management where Higgens could be most productive really affected his confidence. When you lack back over the past 12 years, we have only had a handful of players who were standouts in terms of giving it their all. Higgy was one of them. Good luck to him and that beard will look good in red.

LOL - I hope that midget holds out until Christmas and then signs a future buy-out contract crippling his team. Meanwhile Higgy puts up 15g's and 30pts. LaBamba
Im surprised a NY area team never gave him a PTO. NJ, NYR, BUF, NYI. I guess they want players who can actually score.

There is no such thing as an 'elite' 4th liner. That would be a 3rd liner.
