NucksPatsFan
I've noticed recently that there's ads by TurboMac that pop up only on CDC. No other website I visit experiences this problem. I've researched the problem and there isn't anything in my Google Chrome extensions, nothing new installed on my Mac, etc. So I don't really know what it is besides maybe it's just CDC that got ads? I've never noticed before today. Link to comment

Aircool
Pretty sure there are plenty of forum threads on other websites that will help you solve this problem. Do what any one of us would have to do in this situation, Google "ads by turbomac virus" and try a bunch of things. The expectation that one of us will have contracted this exact virus/malware recently enough to remember exact steps to correcting it, or that we could fish out the exact webpage that would have helped us fix this problem is an insane one. I can't test solutions on the web for you, since I don't have the virus/malware... Nor would I, because stop being lazy and do it yourself. I hate when people make threads like these literally asking people to google things for them... Why don't you google it yourself? Link to comment

Green Building
^ Hah! I was going to say "by-products of porn" but your response is a little more on the nose. The neat thing about this forum is the breadth of content by the users, and I can think of worse places to posit a generic inquiry. Plus, when someone says "...I've researched the problem..." but admits coming up short I wouldn't blame him, but I might blame the guy being the dick for actually being a dick. That said, I've no help other than moral support. Looking forward to the Pats starting 0-4 too . Link to comment

Yeah I thought I made it pretty clear that I searched other forums and Google and tried all their suggestions but still didn't resolve the issue. Oh well, it's only Tuesday, people usually start feeling happier around Thursday. Pfft, believe in Jimmy G! Link to comment

The only advice anyone here can offer you is that you can re-install your OS after backing up any media files you would like to keep, and making a list of all software you'd need to re-install. There is no possible way for anyone here to test any solutions to this problem, since we don't have the virus/malware, and if we did... and we haven't gotten rid of it... This is just a stupid or even more lazy question... So yeah it annoys me. Because every so often someone makes a question like this that literally asks people to google stuff for them, because they can't be bothered to put in any or more time. Link to comment
Where's Wellwood
Have you tried AdBlockPlus? All my home laptops have it as a Chrome extension and it works great. My work laptop doesn't have ABP but I don't get the type of ads you're getting even when I'm on CDC at work. As an aside, the most ad filled site I've seen (that isn't a click bait site, or a porn site) is MensTennisForum. I still browse all the time because there's lots of discussion, but there's ads everywhere. Banners on top, taboola suggestions on the bottom of the page, another banner that stays at the bottom of the screen, ads pop up at the bottom of every photo, random words in posts and sigs are hyperlinked to other sites (by the company Infolinks). It's honestly disgusting. ABP removes all of it though. Link to comment

Someone could've had this problem in the past, or have had another form of browser-extension malware/adware and found an easy trick to solve it. When Apple took out force empty trash option in Yosemite, you couldn't find a clear explanation of how to empty the trash due to items 'being in use' anywhere on the internet. It was someone on CDC who said they discovered you can create your own force empty trash option by holding certain keys. So yeah, it isn't lazy to see if a forum of thousands of people has at least one person who may have experienced this and figured out a way to solve it. Link to comment

Nevertheless, I concur with ABP. @NucksPatsFan I don't get those popups here, nor do I get the notification that one has been blocked by ABP. Also, "believe in Jimmy"? Meh, it'll be the rest of the team that carries you if you do 0.500 or better. Link to comment
Zfetch
@NucksPatsFan This is 100% a problem that stems from another site. Go to the uninstall menus, and find "TurboMac" and uninstall that. Check your add-ons/extensions on your web browser and uncheck any that are called TurboMac. If those two don't work, which one or both of them should, then get back to me. Link to comment
-SN-
This is 100% malware in your browser. There are no advertisement spots in either location shown in your screenshots. Follow these instructions to remove it: https://www.pcrisk.com/removal-guides/9760-turbomac-adware-mac Link to comment
ILL BILL NECRO
Also everyone should have maleware bytes anti malware installed. Its a free amazing program, should clear up 99 percent of your issues regarding malware. Link to comment
NucksPatsFan
Fixed the problem, but oddly enough there was never anything called TurboMac in my Applications folder or my Chrome extensions list. Ended up disabling all chrome extensions, uninstalled chrome, ran maleware bytes then restarted my mac, reinstalled Chrome and it cleared it up. Odd. Thanks for the help guys. Link to comment

Happy you cleared it out. Not sure why you'd be criticized for asking about a problem that was only appearing here. Adblock is a lifesaver for me. Good luck in our league unless we meet in the finals. Link to comment

It wasn't a virus, but I believe individual browsers can get browser extension malware, especially a Google product running on an Apple product. I personally don't like Safari, so I never use it, so I wouldn't know if it can get malware. 6 hours ago, King Heffy said: Happy you cleared it out. Haha back at you, last year was a surprising cinderella story type run for me after a rebuild year, don't think I'll have that luck again. Link to comment
