Pass. Let Toronto take him. He's a 30 pt right winger (natural) who's 5'11 180lbs

Any one of our young players can do as much or more with that ice time and we have Rodin as well.

I saw the Province article - stupid idea that ignores our depth relative to his production, size and potential contribution

Not to worry Benning isn't signing him.

Ah, man. I actually feel bad for the guy if the whole insurance thing is what happened.

Someone will sign him. He can still contribute just we don't need him. I could see Toronto, Islanders, Columbus all having some interest, amongst others. He's a good depth player for a playoff team as well, we just need to start working in our youth - and he isn't light years ahead of anything our youth can bring which is the point

Well that's exactly what I mean: hip surgery or no, I think Versteeg can be a very solid depth guy on the right team.

I had a hard time believing Europe was his only option.

Could be just simply that he's "tired" of the NHL.

He has already won 2 Stanley Cup and has earned close to $30 million (pre-tax).

Spending a couple of years overseas in the Swiss league.... where it's relatively less physical and probably more suited to his type of game, while still getting decent pay.  Then potentially make a come back to the NHL down the line..... doesn't sound like a bad idea.

I agree we are loaded and need to see some youth play, but we made a strong commitment to Eriksson so adding a guy with 7 years of scoring 30 or more points a year for 1-2m should be an easy yes.

versteeg is an upgrade, sure undersized and not physical but if the price is right not a bad idea really.
