HK Phooey
Natural gas is everywhere...I was just at Wastetech in Port Kells yesterday dumping off a pile of household and yard garbage and you could smell the rotting garbage being naturally converted to natural gas. Sorry Rocket...but 500 billion cubic feet of natural gas is not that big a deal (though the news is actually a big deal for Royal Dutch PLC shareholders)...Canada has proven reserves of 70 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, and is already producing in excess of 20 billion cubic feet per day. That is equivalent to the discovery in Egypt being depleted in 25 days, And those who are worried about the Yanks sequestering Egypt's natural gas, you got nothing to worry about...more than half of Canada's production goes to the US, so they have got their geo-politico-natural resource talons firmly embedded into our backside. Warhippy
Screw America. Egypt has endlessly supported Palestine, sticking up for them even though they honour Israels illegal blockade and the request of the UN to not interfere. What will Israel do if Egypt decides to start selling and shipping gas to Palestine, thus ending Israels strangle hold on energy for the west bank and the Palestinians? Sounds and smells like a serious issue me thinks

Sounds and smells like a serious issue me thinks If you're talking specifically about this find, 500 Billion cubic feet of natural gas is valuable but it isn't going to make much of a dent in the region. It's exciting news for Egypt, it's rulers, the state oil company, and Shell. It means they get to cheaply pull up the gas in the middle of a desert and sell it at a larger than normal profit since they don't have to worry about pesky things like regulations and the environment. To put it in perspective, the local state/private subsidiary that's handling it will only see a rise of 15% in their overall production as a result. Last year Italy found 30 Trillion cubic feet of gas right off their coast.
MJDDawg
B.C.'s total natural gas reserves are estimated at 2,933 trillion cubic feet and you can easily make a business case that with the glut of gas globally and with how low the prices are now, that development of the industry in BC may never get off the ground, let alone this development of this new supply. It would be nice for the Palestinians to get their energy from Egypt, then there would be one less thing the Israelis would be blamed for withholding. Gaza belonged to Egypt for centuries but they donèt want those troublemakers back.

Energy for Palestine that is free from oversight means 1 less thing for Israel to hold over the head of a people the entire UN by and large recognize as their own state. It also gives Egypt the ability to develop and sell within their own neighbourhood. And that is a good thing as ti is 1 less carbon footprint in an already over developed region. But then your post smacks of bias so....whatever

They aren't giving them anything now, why would this year old gas discovery change that? The Egyptians don't have to go through Israeli territory and have 100% control over the southern border with the Gaza strip. They have their own blockade in place. You really know nothing about this topic.

You really have a reading comprehension issue if you failed to see this part of the initial statement "ven though they honour Israels illegal blockade and the request of the UN to not interfere" It's a serious question. If you don't want to engage in a serious conversation about it, see your way out of it or just don't respond.

Nothing illegal about Israel or Egypt's actions against the terrorist controlled Palestinian territory. Blockage is in place for security reasons and anyone WITH A BRAIN CAN SEE WHY. Egypt is at war with the Muslim Brotherhood. Hamas is a branch of the Muslim Brotherhood. Hence the blockade.
