EA NHL 17 ratings for the top 10 picks in the NHL Draft

Been playing  the game for many years, the company EA is base in Vancouver, so I was kind of shock when Olli rating is so low.  Olli Juolevi overall rating is only 66.  EA have some hockey experts to do the homework on players and prospects. That goes to show you they believe his years away from the NHL. For a top 5 pick that must be the lowest ever in this game. But its only a game =p

When your favourite team selects a player in the NHL entry draft, you don't always get to see that prospect play for your squad the following season. So for those who aren't patient enough to wait until a player makes gets called up to play in an NHL game in real life, that's where EA Sports' NHL franchise comes in handy.

This week we've had the chance to get our hands on NHL 17, and while you'll have to wait at least another day or so to read our final review, we thought we would take a look at another aspect of the game that players really care about, draft prospect ratings. With the solid amount of highly rated prospects that were selected in the 2016 NHL Draft, we've all been excited to see what rating they received in NHL 17. We should note that two players (Jost & Keller) are currently missing from the active rosters, but will likely be included in an upcoming update. So without further ado...the ratings for the first ten players selected in the NHL Entry Draft.

Auston Matthews - Toronto Maple Leafs - Overall Rating: 77 - Potential: Elite (Medium)

Some pretty interesting choices by EA Sports with those ratings. Do you agree with the ratings issued for the top ten draft picks, or do you believe some were too high and that others were too low? Let us know in the comments, and make sure to check back later in the week for our final review for NHL 17, ahead of the game's official release on September 13th.

Please tell us not to buy the game.  We know it'll suck and apparently people are already saying it sucks.

At the end of the day, it's a video game, not a scouting service. Feels like they are dishing out the overalls depending on the likeliness of the players making their respective NHL teams out of camp. Overalls will get updated pretty quickly. I think it's more of shame that the Sedin's are only 88 overall. If you compare that to some other players overalls that have been released, they are very low compared to their abilities and in comparison to players they are better than. Tanev is an 87 and the Canucks highest overall defender.

You could always edit your overalls/potentials before you start a GM mode. That's what I do. They always seem to mess up prospect potentials and neglect the upcoming draftees.

Want a tip?  Just put OJ on Canucks/Utica but have him play on every D-pairing.  Sim a year and he'll be 80overall in no time.  By then he'll be a 80ish overall 19yo with 7 years of growth left to turn into an elite player.  Or just edit the ratings of all players as you see fit.
