At the time everyone would think Florida would take Drouin or Jones.

But they took the guy who was suppose to be 4th overall...

Alex Barkov who now is a 1st liner and almost a point per game players this year

Nathan MacKinnon is still a talented player but hasn't had as much luck since is rookie season.

Who is the best player?

Barkov? Horvat? MacKinnon? Jones? Drouin?

From what I have seen so far, Barkov is the most complete player and probably will be the best player out of that draft. I see him in the similar mold as Kopitar.

I guess McKinnon is still the most dynamic player. At least in his rookie season, I saw some flashes of Pavel Bure from McKinnon. Not sure what happened since his first season though. Kind of became ordinary (still good but ordinary good as opposed to being electric like Bure).

Jones is good but the hype surrounding him was way too big and he did not live up to that hype right away (unlike Ekblad who did live up to the hype). I think he will still be good much like Hedman who wasn't as good as expected in the beginning but now is playing up to his potential.

Monahan is a good offensive player and currently producing at a highest scoring rate of them all but I don't think see him as becoming a complete player, but more of an offensive specialist who is in charge of putting up points but not much else -- like Gaudreau, Kane, Sedans, etc. A valuable player to any team no doubt.

A homer in me thinks that Bo will be more complete player than Monahan will be. And Bo will be the second most complete player after Barkov but only by a small margin. Monahan may be a better overall scorer than Bo but Bo will be more complete player.

Drouin is the most skilled. But a bit of a wild card. Hard to predict. He could become the best offensive player to come out of his draft year if he is able to put things together.

Anyways, these are my humble thoughts.

2013 Barkov then Ekblad in 2014. Florida did real good there. Set themselves up for the future in just two years.

Kinda like Tampa. 20008 Stamkos then Hedman in 2009. If they can add the right supporting cast, they will be a contender much like Tamp. Still wondering why Tallon was "promoted" out of the GM position.

We almost got Hedman.

You are referring to the Bieksa + Burrows + 1st rumour? Was that after or before 2011 cup final?

In hindsight, would have been a good trade for us. But if it was before 2011, maybe we don't win two President's trophies + a trip to the cup final.

I like the potential of Rasmus Ristolainen. He looks like a beauty. 6'4", logs BIG minutes, shoots right, can play in all situations. Defensemen take longer to develop so we won't know for another 4 years how Rasmus compares to Jones and Nurse. But if I had to put money on it I would say Rasmus comes out of that draft as the best D out of them all. And we know how valuable big minute, big right handed D are in this league. Not saying he will be better than Barkov or even Monahan but he could be special.

If Adam Larsson can get you a Taylor Hall what would Rasmus fetch if he turns out better than Jones?

can't believe you put horvat in the same sentence as barkov, jones, and drouin lol

Funny how people were saying Drouin was overrated and not worth more than a 2nd 6 months ago, now he belongs in the best of his draft class. Amazing how quickly things change on here.

Mackinnon, Jones, and Barkov are in another class than Drouin.

Drouins playoffs was astounding! Now that he's "bought in" Tampa is that much better. If that continues into the season then he's in the same class as those players.

we will see what happens at contract time though.

I put Bo in a similar light. Bo of the last 2 months of the 15-16 season was a team leader, scored at a high rate, continued his excellent defensive play, made line mates better... Etc. If that's the real Bo then he's not better than those players but he can be mentioned in their company.

Barkov had a monster season and is expected to improve on it next year by all the fantasy mags in print.  If he does follow up, he's should be in the top ten, some have him in the top 5 this year.  He is also a possession beast - this puts him at the top of the class...for now.  McKinnon has the best body of work so far and that shouldn't be ignored, was blasting pucks in when Barkov was struggling to get 40pts.  Nobody else on this list compares IMO.  Droiun is the black sheep of the family though, he could end up becoming the best point producer, especially if he gets regular duty with Stamkos over the next eight years....A bit early to award a winner...even our home grown Horvat may deserve props in ten years if he reaches his full Selke potential (what the Canucks brass can do to help line-mate wise has a lot to do with that though).  Jagr owning father time last season may have had something to do with Barkov's stellar season....will be interesting to see what happens when he finally stops lacing them up, or finally becomes less of an cyborg and more of a human.   Voted Barkov...for now.

Florida has a strong chance to be in the Eastern Conference Final next season...what their GM has done over the last couple years is nothing short of amazing.  Drafted extremely well, traded well, and picked up free agents to bolster their line-up.  Only Nill and Bowman have done a better (or similar) job over that time period.  Gone from bottom feeders to winners in just a few short years...makes EDM weep I'm sure.   Tallon's ability should keep moving their ship in the right direction regardless of post.
