Did The Sedins Just Give Benning A Green Light For A Trade?

What life without the Sedins could be here much quicker than most fans thought IF unsolicited statements from the Sedins over the last two years are correct. Each year these statements appear to becoming more direct, a couple of years ago the statements were kind of general, "it is the business", "these things happen", "we would deal with that if it happens" and now these pretty clear statements.

Quotes from the SNet sight; ( hope isn't wrong to do this)

We haven’t won,” he said. “If you want to look back and say you had a great career, you’ve got to win the Stanley Cup.”

Henrik is more diplomatic: “Played with great teams, still haven’t been able to win. But still trying,” he said. “We were close to winning [in 2011.] That’s the only thing we’re missing.”

Now statements like that seem to indicate a willingness to be moved for an opportunity at the cup, doesn't it?

IMO, if true, which it most likely is due to who said it, then Benning should be looking into possible deals even now, you know testing the waters type stuff.

So a Canuck line up without the Sedins?

Hansen - Sutter - Eriksson

Rodin - Grandlund - Virtanen

Baerstchi - Horvat - Ruutu

Guance  - Cassels - Dorsett

I would think any deals would be at A trade deadline, most likely not this year, but that would get the Nucks the biggest bang for the buck with them having one more year on their contracts.

Now nothing here says they are unhappy but like Bourque, the team and fans, should feel they owe these guys and do what would help them see a great ending to their careers and help this team for the future. There would be nothing stopping them from re-signing with the Canucks after their current contract expires to finish up with the Canucks.

Of course Benning could do like he has done all the way along and get nothing, but if he starts at least thinking about it now, he might come up with something better than nothing. What does he need, an outright demand for a trade?

JB got snookered an schooled last couple TDL 's an nothing there to indicate he can pull off a block buster that would favour or enhance the teams expedited rebuild to a successful new dynasty ,he has along ways to go .

No, it does not. Why don't you quote the entire article instead of a couple one-liner quotes from the article?

Henrik also stated:

“If we’re going to win,” Henrik declares, “we’re going to win in Vancouver. That’s the only option. But who knows? We’re not going to stay if we can’t help the team, or if they don’t want us. Who knows what happens?”

Meaning, Henrik did not give a green light for a trade. They simply want to win in Vancouver.

The quoted post above should be posted over and over and OVER AGAIN in response to the OP. Picking, choosing and posting only the parts of an article that play into the OP's allegedly clairvoyant wishings and imaginings does NOT make something a fact nor a reasonable support for their 'theory'.

This. I like how the op casually left this part out just so there wouldn't be an argument against him. Nothing to see here.

I just don't see a cup contender being able to work around 14M dollars.

It is easy for the Canucks, especially with so short a term left on the contracts.

Retain half their salaries and then take on a short term "bad", cap heavy contract.

Doing this would enhance the return immensely, especially if draft picks are coming back.

example - retain 7 mil in cap hit, this still reduces the Canucks cap hit by 7 mil, and take on a 5 mil cap, the Nucks still save 2 mil in cap hit and the team trading for them now save 2 mil in cap and salary, one player at 5 mil vs two star players at 7 mil.

Our owner doesn't want to rebuild, no way that could happen.

Wow, if he really cut out that much he should get a suspension.

If for some reason the Sedins were to become interested in a trade to a contender then I would support that.  Even better would be for them to retire as Canucks and to sign one last contract at a discount, and be the best 3rd line in Hockey in a couple years, bringing us to the next level.  This will of course only happen with some luck, hard work and Campy Jim and Co. finagling some magic.  Haters will say Campy Jim is moron and will refuse to believe in the possibility. Homers will continue to see no fault in ol' Campy Jim's moves thus far and see us as a contender within a year or two.  The reality is, as usual, somewhere in between the two schools of thought.

That all said, I highly doubt the Sedins are going anywhere, they are forever Canucks and will go down in history as such.  They are the embodiment of professionals...in my opinion...and I love them like hockey brothers.
