Ug, back to work.  I really didn't do much this holidays but at least I kept the weight off.  Looking forward to warmer days...

Every once in a while I like to go to Find a Grave site, and tonight I was reading about my Grandfather.

I never heard of this site before tbh.

So whenever I am bored, I look at the airline site, seeing what the deals are, and where I can go.  Tonight I was like - I can go to Hawaii for the day!! The times are right.  I could take a 7am flight, and then take a late night flight back.  Then I saw the price, and I think the airline should lower their prices to Hawaii and Alaska.  I would like to go to Ketchikan again.  I like it there.  I will keep searching for low airfare to Hawaii because a day trip there would be divine!

The airline is offering trips to New York and back at $99 each way, and the flight schedule works out, but I may not be happy getting off the plane in the Morning as in groggy from an overnight flight.

I was telling someone how I like to take day trips, and that I like going to Montreal for extended trips, and how I've taken the train from Montreal to Ottawa, and that it is a 2 hr train ride, and a train ride from Montreal to Quebec City is 4 hours, that I took a day trip there, went there for lunch.  And the person was like... you went to Quebec City for lunch and took the train back to Montreal??!  I was like... yeah, I went there for lunch, and was going to say the other things I did, but left it at that.  I really didn't go there for lunch... I went there for the history and that I could take the train there and to explore.

I envy you jetsetters.  Even if I was loaded I still don't think I'd travel at all.  Being practically raised on a boat I'd sail the world though.

Why wouldn't you get on a plane?  The last time I took a a boat over to Victoria, I got so sick during the ride that I was continuously throwing up, that it took me 2 hours to recover.  I could not stand up straight to walk.  Thank goodness it was a quick going through customs.

I may take a plane from South Lake Union the next I go up to Vancouver.  I took the bus there on Sunday, and the customs agent asked me about cannabis 2x, what I did for a living 2x, and other questions.  I'm not much for answering questions.  It's like, hey I'm going to a Canucks game and that's it.  That's why I will not take a day trip to Calgary.  I bet you it would be a red flag for them, like who takes day trips from Seattle to Calgary?! Not very many people.

always stay as low in the ship as you are allowed, less motion that way.

That's great, thanks for the advice. I have not taken the ferry to Victoria since, but flew there last Spring for my birthday.  It was dessert at 10am, and then lunch and champagne at my favorite restaurant, and a walk in James Bay.

I remember taking the ferry, before we departed, I was eating salad and then a candy bar, and they were announcing the anti nausea medicine, and I didn't think I needed it, cause I had taken the ferry times before without issue.  And half way there, I was throwing up, and continued throwing up until the ferry was almost there.  And when we arrived, I kept hoping customs would be quick, and that I could fake being well while talking to the agent.  It was quick, and after exiting the building and walking down the street, I then could not stand up straight while walking for 2 hours.  And then after 2 hours, I started to feel better.

Yikes, won't that cause more sickness?  That's the only time I ever felt it was when I was in the cabin and couldn't see my surroundings.  I instantly felt better when I got back up and was able to see and focus on the nearby land.

KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE.

The American Academy of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery recommends that people who are prone to motion sickness sit in a forward-facing seat and avoid reading while traveling. Instead, focus your gaze on the horizon or a stationary object in the distance, like a mountain or street sign.

If you notice that you’re feeling dizzy while scrolling through your phone, put the phone down and look into the distance. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests that you reduce sensory input by lying down (if possible), looking at the horizon, or closing your eyes.

GET FRESH AIR.

Motion sickness can make you feel hot and sweaty, and the wind (or a vent of air blowing at you) can help you feel better. To stave off seasickness, stand outside (on the deck of the boat) in the cold air for a few minutes.

@Tre Mac that rarely happens.  Don't you want to see magical places like Iceland or walk across the border from San Diego to Tijuana?

Yeah I got sick on the ferry.  It was the Clipper, and it was bouncing around.

I made Brownie batter in a moment of sheer weakness.  They say don't raw dough but I've never gotten sick and I ate a ton as a kid.  I used a recipe in my mom's old cookbook, lots of eggs and butter.  So delicious yet so potentially gut wrenching.  Why?

I love to visit Iceland, probably via a nice cruise though.

@Tre Mac that sounds neat to take a cruise to Iceland.  There are cruises that you can take to Alaska and up through the Arctic.

I was just thinking about interesting things from my day trips and other trips.

I used to wake up early early when in Iceland, and would walk around Reykjavik before anyone was out.  It was so peaceful.

I took a day trip up to Alaska, and on the way back, the weather was clear that I saw BC ferries going to and from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay, and I could see the Tsawwassen ferry dock.  Then we flew over the San Juans, then WA state ferries, and then to Seattle, and saw the skyscrapers.  It was neat.

When taking the train from Montreal to Ottawa, there's this small town along the way.  I forgot what the name of it is, but it struck me.  It had this little train station, and there was bar to the right on the other side of the train that was hockey oriented.  I thought it was neat.

I used to take the train up to Vancouver many times years ago, and once you pass the border, it goes into White Rock, and always thought to myself, what a cute place this is.  I was going to go to White Rock once, and had it mapped out.  I was going to take the Canada Line and get off at a stop, and then take the bus, and then walk.  But I took the bus up to the ferry terminal and went to Nanaimo.

@Tre Mac, how long have you lived in White Rock?

Blur was the first cd I ever bought, $25 at the local mall.  I worked part time all summer and bought a CD player.   The album was Parklife so it mustve been around 1994.  I lived in White Rock most of my life.

That sounds really good.  It entices me to bake brownies.  I could go organic or gluten free, or have sprinkles and M&M's on top or a Snickers bar or something, making it a Snickers brownie.  Or I can do an organic brownie with a piece of an organic chocolate bar on top.

Well I ate some batter and didn't get sick, so good.

So today, I spent my day sitting on the couch working on my quilt.  I am now watching Hockey.  I like to plan my day by going to the NHL app on my Roku and look, and be like, there's the Canadiens on at 4pm and then the Canucks at 7pm.  Then I am thinking - should I go to the grocery store?  I have no champagne and I am at the last 2 pieces of Valentines candy, and I wonder if the Valentines candy is cheaper this week than last week.  And now, I am like - oh my, Toronto just scored, deep breaths, and awfulness.  Hmmm, maybe I should make a list, and go to the grocery store tomorrow, and drink my Kombucha and enjoy the last 2 pieces of Valentines candy.
