ShakyWalton
Im sure glad we never went after this guy.... Columbus Blue Jackets President of Hockey Operations John Davidson announced Wednesday that winger David Clarkson has failed his phsyical and will not start camp with the team. Clarkson has an apparent back injury."Every time he tries to work out, it's bothersome. He's disappointed," Davidson said during a press conference on Blue Jackets Media Day. The 32-year-old winger played in just 23 games last season due to multiple ailments. He registered 2 goals and 2 assists along with 23 penalty minutes. The Blue Jackets team Twitter account said Wednesday the forward's contract is insured. Clarkson was traded to the Blue Jackets in 2015 from the Toronto Maple Leafs for right winger Nathan Horton. Stelar
I know Clarkson has been compensated pretty well, but what an example of a guy who's career went off a cliff.
Bur14Kes17
I legitimately feel badly for the guy. People harp on him for the money hes paid but never once has he ever shown any kind of bad attitude and hes just wanted to live up to his contract and is a real heart and soul guy. No doubt hes way more frustrated with himself then any fan is

Toronto made the classic mistake of grabbing a guy and then thrusting him into a far greater role and making him into something he's not. That's the curse of being overpaid. This guy was legitimately dynamite in Jersey.

Jaku
The second he signed that contract in Toronto he was instantly a buyout candidate. One thirty goal season? When you play with Parise you're going to score goals. He's scored 17 goals, 13 assists, in 141 games since signing that contract. Too bad for the back injury, you don't ever want to see a player be done because of an injury. But did anyone really expect him to play to his contract? I certainly did not. As a professional athlete I can only imagine how frustrating it must be to not only be unable to play but to not live up to his contract. He knows better than any fan what the expectations are and I imagine he's got high expectations for himself. He's overpaid, but if a team offered most people more than they're worth I imagine they would take it.

Don't worry though, when we sign free agents to replace the Sedins as many have suggested. It'll totally work out! Since you know, there will be so many available and they will all want to come to Vancouver for $7 million AAV

Monty
Not his fault the Leafs decided to throw another Jeff Finger contract out. Good thing the Leafs learned their lesson with the Clarkson contract, though. ***Pauses*** Wait, they signed Stephane Robidas the very next season for 3 years at $3M/per? NotJaredMcCann
Back injury huh? Must be from trying to carry all the hopes and dreams of Maple Leaf fans. Seriously though, hopefully he's able to fully recover from this and get his career back on track. I always love the unexpected battles that the playoffs bring, and Clarkson vs. Brown was pretty good in the 2012 finals.
Nuxfanabroad
He's got 20,000,000 reasons to relax & take a new life-direction. So many ladies to tango with, books to read, etc... Meanwhile, I can think of perhaps 20 million other things to worry about.

That's what happens when you're desperate to sign players to fill up roster spots when they don't have the prospects ready to go. Pretty sure Robidas took that for a nice retirement payday since if he went to a contender, it'd be half of the amount he would get from Toronto.
