I heard the Hutton one earlier today.  The kid is a beauty.

I like Willy, but I just can't seem to buy into him.

Am I the only one who misses AV?

Honestly, can understand various criticisms, but figure Willie's a good, stern, ol' mentor for these youngin's. Better to have this loyal, understated, respectful type, as opposed to some extreme like Torts, that's fersure!

Not to mention now that we have a consistent infusion of youth in the lineup I don't think there could be anything worse than a new coach every year and a half.

Agreed..continuity is the order of the day. Finally when it's time to step aside,(for virtually every coach runs his course), you get the feeling Willie will step aside gracefully, always thinking of the org/youth.

Lmao! I was thinking something very similar when I read drummer's post. -two periods of dump and chase, neutral zone trap... yay. So much fu.... boring.

Like at the end of the season? .. would seem like a good time. I'm kind of confused about Willy right now. Big fan of his first season, completely disenchanted with his second. It seems to me he's hung up on his pregame plan and refuses to adjust when it's failing. Or his version of adjustment is benching youth.

Given Travis Greene's success in Utica and his positive development and deployment history. I'd like to see him move up. The timing seems real good.

Hell yes.

AV didn't try to coach offense out of plugs, he made them do what plugs do best. And we won hockey games.

With a veteran roster, AV coaches a boring ass game. Booorrring. Boring boring boring. If he hadn't have been coaching a stacked team there'dve been no excitement or wins. Sound fun?

Willie was hired partly because he is regarded as an excellent developmental coach -- one of the best in the business, as is Travis Green. And I think he has done a good job with the young guys. I think the Canucks' biggest problem last year (and probably this year as well) is lack of talent. Injuries added to that problem last year, so I expect the team to be better this year. And I expect Willie to do a good job with the young guys.

But, if the Canucks are ever going to build another Cup contender, they will either some of the prospects they have to take a big step forward or they will need a further infusion of young talent.

I agree there is not much point in changing coaches now or even mid-season if things don't go well.

Lack of talent on the ice at the time.

It's really stupid to see the Sedins taking defensive draws after some 4th line takes an offensive zone one, loses it, gets hemmed in and the goalie has to freeze it in the second while tied and then later see Derek Dorsett & Linden fking Vey out there with 2 minutes to go in the third down by one.

That's the part that bugs me about him. I don't think he's an NHL coach if he keeps doing crap like that.

@JamesB @brownky

I don't particularly love or hate Willie D, although I do lean towards accepting him for my aforementioned reasons, as well as those mentioned by James. If there isn't a shoe in powerhouse coach available a lateral coaching change is effectively pointless and potentially detrimental because once you go down that road you could easily wind up having 3 coaches in 4 or 5 years. The result could feasibly be a team with no identity.

Having said that, last year we were a hot mess. If we're fighting hard for a genuine shot at playoffs and WD decides to ice the 4th line in a deciding game then yes, that should be reviewed in the offseason. We were not in that specific position last year though so I can't fault the guy for spreading out the ice time a little more.

Na I think he misses the back to back president trophies and dominating the nhl

That being said, they locker room tuned av out and yea a change was definitely needed. Willie so far, definitely has been a horrible choice. If he can't turn it around this year, he must go.

Edit, ok not horrible but below average.

Two things:

1) No cup. Ottawa has won Prez trophies too. Not a cup. As with in New York. AV will not win a Stanley Cup as a head coach no matter how good the team you hand him. He plays stupid games at times they need not be played.

But he was funny, so he was well liked. I'd rather have a guy I hate 364 days of the year as a coach but on the 365th I'm getting my stanley cup ring sized.

2) Horrible is the correct word, you may use it.
